This is why I hate tumblr culture. Fandom SHOULD be about sharing. There was a time when people would have been ecstatic that someone would care enough about their ideas enough to even mention them here. But no, now we all must jealously guard even our AU ideas, because they're our oh so important intellectual property sonic oc do not steal

I think you're all being petty and needlessly rude over the anon's request for permission. It's not like they said "No! Don't request this! I don't want anyone to expand upon this!" Besides, I believe Hima said at one point people were free to use his stuff as long as no money was made off of it or anyone claimed it for themselves (not giving credit).

And the people who were whining about stealing OCs and having to ask to be imspired by something: There's a difference between inspiration and ripping something off. It would be one thing if the OP had said a Ballet AU, another to post all of the anon's ideas for someone else to use. Same goes for stealing characters.

You people complain about Tumblr users (who I don't generally like, either), yet you're acting as baby-ish as them over this. Grow the hell up.

Omegaverse comes from some wolf TV show. Second, the fact that it's an omegaverse means nothing. If the originally user of the omegaverse made all of specific pairings, their roles, jobs, and histories, and that's all everyone uses, then yes, it's ripping the original off.

1. Hima knows about the fandom and doesn't care. He's stated as long as no one claims his work or makes money off of it, he doesn't care what fans do.

2. It's one thing to want a Ballet AU because you saw a post. It's another to take all the characters' roles, histories, and conflicts and asks for that.

So why can't I take professionally publish Harry Potter and put him in Hogwarts, but change the plot from there as long as I give JKR credit? I wouldn't even ask for money on the books. I still wouldn't get away with it.

And yes, it does need permission. Fanfiction in itself actually isn't legal. That's one of the reasons that old "Keep the internet free, fanfiction and fanart is danger because of this bill" thing a while back caused a scare. Most companies just don't after it because of the promotion it can give and the difficulties pursuing everyone.
