Self-explanatory. Here you can talk with other anons about fills, prompts, past connections, anything related to the kink meme!

Please try to keep this post ON TOPIC to discussions related to the kink meme, like rule changes, help finding lost prompts, and questions/discussion pertaining directly to fills or prospective fills. What you read/request/write

(Anonymous) 2011-02-12 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you usually request the same pairing/kinks you like to write? Do you read about the same pairing you tend to fill?

I'm asking this because I tend to request for my OTP, and the 90% of fills I read are about them.

But then, when I have to fill myself, I never do about them. I think it's because of a lack of confidence. I know perfectly my OTP and their possible dynamics, and also have my own headcanon for them, but everytime I find an awesome request for them, I just feel I wouldn't do them justice.

Thus, I feel more comfortable writing about pairings I don't usually read about. And that's weird XD What about you, anons? Any similar incoherences or are you die hard shippers in every field?

Re: What you read/request/write

(Anonymous) 2011-02-12 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to say I'm the same way. I have this nagging worry that if I post a fill with my OTP, readers will be like, "Eww, I just realized how much I hate this pairing..." Thus they won't be writing awesome fills with them in the future. XD Irrational, but... yeah.

Jigoku Shoujo crossover prompt?

(Anonymous) 2011-02-13 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Anon seems to recall a prompt for a nonspecific crossover with Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl), but cannot seem to find it or possibly may have seen it on a different anon kink meme. Failing that specific prompt, is there a general anime crossover prompt that can be used to try out a plot bunny that's chewing on anon's brain?

Favourite comments?

(Anonymous) 2011-02-13 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
On a hopefully lighter note: Fillers, what comments have you gotten on fills here that you really liked? The ones that made you go 'yay, someone gets it!', or that made you laugh, or that gave you good ideas, or that were just really complimentary and made you feel more confident as a writer?

My favourite comment ever was on a fic with Polamd as the main character - an anon who liked it finished with a side question in Polish. I didn't answer, because I don't speak a word of Polish. But I was deeply flattered that they found my setting so convincing they'd assumed I did. I felt like my research had really paid off. So, mysterious Polish anon, if you're still out there, thank you!

Hetalia_Pen no longer tracking IPs

(Anonymous) 2011-02-13 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Since it was discussed above, but I want to be sure anons see this - Hetalia_Pen has turned off IP tracking, so anons who are concerned about privacy can now post there safely.

Hetalia + Zombies fills

(Anonymous) 2011-02-13 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
So I just read this awesome fill about America & Canada getting assaulted by zombies http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/19013.html?thread=68774725#t68774725

Thanks in advance!

Prussia/Italy fluff

(Anonymous) 2011-02-14 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
So, apparently requests for recs still go here for the time being? Apologies if not.

Like the title says, I'd just really like to read some Prutalia fluffiness.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
This anon just came back to the meme today and is really confused.

it is not for general Hetalia/fic discussion, a social post, or writing help.

So does this mean ABSOLUTELY NO DISCUSSION OF THIS TYPE AT ALL, or can we still ask these questions as long as we specify that it's in relation to a fill we're currently writing? Because I thought the discussion thread (along with the beta thread) was partly to help us with our fills, so I don't understand why we're no longer allowed to talk about the writing aspect of the meme anymore. I didn't know people were just making general chitchat in those topics.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, dear, sweet anon, it's confusing for a bunch of us right now. The rules change is not necessarily permanent and, if the mods listen to the reasonable arguments in threads above, we'll get back a lot of the topics we had before including help on writing fills/characters for the meme.

A few threads would fall apart into personal insults, not really general chitchat. Totally different thing, but the mods are clamping down on everything to (kind of pointlessly judging by the foolishness on this page alone) stop the comments that have absolutely nothing to do with Hetalia or the meme.

Instead, we're told to use another, fairly dead, not-really-anon comm to get help with writing. It's up to the individual anon to decide if they want to use it as mandated at very top of this post page.

tl;dr: overreaction causes much confusion, solves nothing, creates more of a headache for everyone; meme continues to be like herding cats

About Length

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking about doing a very long fill, but after reading the comments on the last discussion post, it seems many anons don't like reading very long fills (because of the time commitment). So before I start on it, I'm asking, what is maximum amount of words are you willing to read for a fill on the meme? In terms of comment boxes, there are about 700 words/comment box.

I don't read too much Vietnam, especially in AUs, but I did see someone on ff.net use Linh. It might be a good idea to find websites that list common names in a culture and their meanings.

I'm looking for prompts pertaining to photography/videotaping during sex, preferably any/any. Do you know of any?

Alternative places?

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
What other places to post fic can you recommend fellow anons? fanfiction.net isn't much fun, little opportunity for answering reviewers among other things.

Re: Alternative places?

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Although a lot of people bag ffn, I quite like that you can check how many people have viewed the story (or at least clicked on it) and your profile.

I guess the other places are your LJ, deviant art, you could make a tumblr blog, and there's an adult place I can't recall - was it adultfanfiction.net?

There are three "alternative" hetalia kink memes if you're interested but I think no one actually uses them.

That said, what is the main reasons for wanting to post elsewhere? eg do you want to be able to delete stuff? see the number of visitors, etc?? If we knew this, people may have better suggestions than my lame bunch XD

An ... Ethical Dilemma

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Say hypothetically that an anon made a request. This request was filled but the OP didn't like it and so didn't comment, hoping that the aa would just think that OP had abandoned the request.

Then, the request is filled again and OP loves the second fill. But ... should OP comment? If OP does, should OP comment on the first fill as well, or risk looking like a douchebag?

Hypothetically, of course.

An Etiquette Question

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Mods, feel free to delete, I don't know how on-topic this is.

Alright, so suppose you saw a request you REALLY liked and wanted to fill, and there was an abandoned fill under that with just the beginning. All is well and good...until you realize that the person has either begun it the "only way" (i.e. pretty much the general beginning any fic with that prompt would have) or a thousand times better than you could.

Would it be considered rude to fill from where they left off, saying straight up that you're not the original A!Anon, you're just picking up the fic? Especially if it had been abandoned for a very long time. Is that plagiarism, or just running with an old idea?

Re: An Etiquette Question

(Anonymous) 2011-02-15 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say it's plagiarism. As a writer, I'm happy if what I've done inspires other people to write, but I would not like it at all if someone used my work as the beginning of theirs (disclaimers regardless) and just continued on, even if I had abandoned it. It's still MY work.

Write your own beginning, even if it's going to be pretty much the same as the other anon's. A lot of beginnings are the same. Do try and change it up a little bit, though. :P Make sure you don't take any sentences directly from the abandoned fic. Sure, maybe it won't be as good as the other anon's, but it's in YOUR words. And that's the important part.

(And I don't think there's only ONE way to start a story, ever. Think about it a little more, try and find a way to make the beginning different.)

Posting a really long oneshot and. . .

(Anonymous) 2011-02-16 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
(Feel free to delete this if it doesn't follow the rules. XD)

So, I saw all the other discussions regarding the length of fills, and now I'm kind of worried about something I'm working on.

It's a oneshot made up of several mini-oneshots, but they all need to be together to make sense. (I'm worried that if I separated the snippets, the fill would seem complete or something. Maybe I could mention that it's not? *fail*) Right now, the length of the soon-to-be-posted fill saved to my computer would be around twenty comment boxes (really, it's only around 10,000 words; it's just the character limits on the comment boxes that makes the length seem much longer =P).

I don't know, I feel like splitting it up would seem like I'm trying hard to get comments or something, with the fill already technically done on my computer. I just don't want to scare people off with so much words, so little time. XD

Should I post it all together, even if it's daunting for readers, or should I post it several pieces at a time (with the author's note saying that it's not complete yet), a day's length in-between?

Re: Posting a really long oneshot and. . .

(Anonymous) 2011-02-16 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
You could include a header which indicates that it's not complete. Like, the first oneshot can be made up of commentboxes 1a, 1b, 1c, and you put "title of fill 1a/7" (or whatever) in your subject line. Then people wouldn't mistakenly conclude that it was complete.

I wouldn't mention that it's complete on your computer. Even though there are legitimate reasons to break your post into parts (a thread on one of the final pages of the previous discussion post confirmed that most prefer this), I agree it would seem kind of comment-grabby to make it explicit that you aren't posting all you have.

So, long story short, I'd suggest numbering/labelling it in such a way that it is apparent that it is composed of multiple parts, and post the parts about a day apart.

Fusions and unfinished canon

(Anonymous) 2011-02-16 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really tempted to fill a fusion fic request (Hetalia characters and a different world). As in, "have a plot already" and "am really excited about it" tempted. The only problem is that the not-Hetalia canon series isn't finished and it might joss what I have planned.

But if I wait, it'll probably never get written. *is easily distractable >>;*

So anons, if you were reading a fusion fic that started before the fusion part was finished, would you be bothered if some details about the fusion world end up different from canon? And/or should I go ahead anyway?

Re: Fusions and unfinished canon

(Anonymous) 2011-02-16 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
If I cared one bit about the other series, I'd be begging you to write a fusion fic no matter what gets mucked up when that series ends.

People usually are forgiving if you come out with a creative work that's based on something else that isn't finished quite yet. After all, you'd never get any fanfiction for currently produced series if we all waited until every scrap of canon info was hammered out and published.
