Self-explanatory. Here you can talk with other anons about fills, prompts, past connections, anything related to the kink meme!

Please try to keep this post ON TOPIC to discussions related to the kink meme, like rule changes, help finding lost prompts, and questions/discussion pertaining directly to fills or prospective fills. About Length

I'm thinking about doing a very long fill, but after reading the comments on the last discussion post, it seems many anons don't like reading very long fills (because of the time commitment). So before I start on it, I'm asking, what is maximum amount of words are you willing to read for a fill on the meme? In terms of comment boxes, there are about 700 words/comment box.

Please, please, please keep it ON TOPIC to just discussions related to the functioning of the kink meme, like rule changes or help finding lost prompts

In all honesty, I think people will tell you "it depends who good the fill is".

Write what you think you can commit to.

For a one shot, I'd prob read up to 10 comment boxes in one go. For a WIP, I would probably read maybe 10 long chapters at the most but posted in updates not all at one time.

In all honesty, I get bored reading massively long WIPs. There are some very long ones which people practically had heart attacks over how great they were. I tried so many times to read them but got bored and abandoned them. The length was one factor, but the actual story (plot, characters, dialogue etc) also contributed to me not liking them.

+1

If something doesn't happen to move the story forward in every chapter or comment box, I'm bailing no matter how much other anons fap to the supposedly awesome author.

Another factor that outweighs how long a fill is would be getting the sense the author has a plan and isn't pulling everything out of their shining ass all the time. Meaty chapters building on each other to a definite climax? I'll follow you into triple digit chapters or through a series.

On the other hand, microfills or short fills are rewarding too. It all depends on what the author wants to say and how good they are at getting to the heart of the matter.

Like the second anon said, "it all depends on the author." I think there was a topic like this in the last couple of pages of the second disco post.

I'd read it, if it's interesting. Tbh, I don't care about lenght if I like what I'm reading.

For me, it's the boxes per update that's intimidating, not the total length. 7-ish per update is good - I like being able to sink my teeth into updates, but I don't always have time to read 14k at once.

But as long as the story stays interesting, I'll be with it all the way. :) Make it as long as it needs to be, without short-changing or dragging it out Wheel of Time series, I'm looking at you, and anons will keep reading.

I actually love long fills, but only if there's something there. If you have an actual plot that you've thought out and the story is clearly going somewhere, awesome! If the fill is only long because of random unnecessary drama, irrelevant subplots, or just plain bad writing, I'm out - but I bail for those things regardless of length.

In short, the length should fit the story; if you have something to say or a story to tell, take however long you need to say it. Don't cramp yourself. The Odyssey would not work as a oneshot.

(as a side note though, if you're going to do multi-comment updates, please fill up the comments all the way to the word limit, or wherever close to it you can reasonably break: it's much easier to make it through 7 long comments than 12 tiny ones.)

I agree with what's been said above - long is fine, as long as the story is really deserving of a long fill. If you've got a lot happening and you're telling the story well, I'll be with you at the 100th comment-box, but if you're stretching a fill that should be about 30 commentboxes out into 60, odds are I'll lose interest and stop following.

Of course, knowing which you're doing is hard, but I'd say go with what feels right for the story, and mind the advice about keeping updates neither too short nor too long.

As long as you actually have something happening in the parts and the formatting isn't HOLY SHIT WALL OF TEXT, then I quite like long fills.:D

I agree with above anons. If it's well-formatted (and written) then you can go to the moon and back and I will lap it all up. X3
