What you read/request/write

(Anonymous) 2011-02-12 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you usually request the same pairing/kinks you like to write? Do you read about the same pairing you tend to fill?

I'm asking this because I tend to request for my OTP, and the 90% of fills I read are about them.

But then, when I have to fill myself, I never do about them. I think it's because of a lack of confidence. I know perfectly my OTP and their possible dynamics, and also have my own headcanon for them, but everytime I find an awesome request for them, I just feel I wouldn't do them justice.

Thus, I feel more comfortable writing about pairings I don't usually read about. And that's weird XD What about you, anons? Any similar incoherences or are you die hard shippers in every field?

Indexes!

(Anonymous) 2011-02-12 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any indexes you really want?

Are you working on any indexes right now?

Anon wants a germancest index. The last one got deleted.

I'm working on an England's index, seeing how the old one is dead. I did parts 1 to 6 and also part 16 and 17. It's a lot of work, but I'm pretty happy about it.

I started indexing part 14 this year. I'm on page five right now.

I have to say I'm the same way. I have this nagging worry that if I post a fill with my OTP, readers will be like, "Eww, I just realized how much I hate this pairing..." Thus they won't be writing awesome fills with them in the future. XD Irrational, but... yeah.

I always write and request for my favourite characters and my favourite pairings. But while I can only write porn, I request for different styles: historical, rom-com, crack, etc.

I'd love to see the shota index either updated or restarted; and I agree with aboveanon on another Germancest index. According to index of indexes, there's not an Americest index either, which needs to happen.

Also, a bondage kinkdex would be nice (the hardcore stuff)Maybe even a just-smut index? (dear god, that poor anon would die trying to make one)

I do have that same worry as you do, but I still love writing for them and continue to do so. I dislike a majority of my fics, but someone out there likes them, and I'm eager to spread around my favorite pairing. ^^

I usually just read my OTP, but I do check out other fics if they have interesting premises, my OTP as a background pairing, or if they're for a pairing I like.

And. . . I've never requested anything before. XD

Aww, why was it deleted?

I focus really intensely on a single character. Everything I read, write or request will have that character in it. The stuff I request will be stuff that involves either a kink I don't think I could manage myself or a character I'm no good at writing. And then sometimes I request stuff I could write just because I want someone else to write it (things are never as enjoyable to read when you've written it yourself).

I'm working on a France index right now. I've only done parts 1 and 11 along with a few fills and requests I've picked up here and there. It's going to be a lot of work.

/diffanon

I can't think of a way to answer that which isn't snarky, as I find the reasons it closed to be objectionable. Suffice to say, check out the comment thread on the "this is closing" post there and you'll see :/

The pairing I write the most is only my second or third favorite, and I almost never write my favorite pairing. My favorite pairing is a popular one and there are lots of great writers who do a great job of writing it - so there's a lot to live up to, and not really a need for good fics for that pairing, since there are plenty already.

By contrast, the pairing I write most is less popular, and the prevailing interpretation of it is one I don't care for, so I feel like I'm filling a niche that relatively few other writers have tackled. Since I'm going for an alternative interpretation, many fans of the pairing may not be interested in what I do, but the stuff I've done so far has gotten a good enough response that I know I'm not the only one who prefers to see that pairing in a different light.

I think the maintainer said they couldn't so it any more.

a France index!? that's awesome, I can't wait to see it, anon! ♥

I mostly request things I don't think I could write myself. I didn't used to, but twice I've, after requesting, come up with ideas for my own requests but I feel silly filling my own request. So now I save the ideas I might want for myself, and request the stuff I won't be able to do.

I'm working on a Greece index and an Any/Any index right now (since the "free-for-all requests" index has been dead for a long time now). I'm up to Parts 1-3 + pages 1-30 of Part 4 + Part 17 so far for both indexes, and I have to say that maintaining an index, especially when it's more than one index, is not as easy as it looks. Especially for the Any/Any index - it's something I've wanted to see for a long time, but actually making it? It drives you crazy with trying to figure out just how many tags you need and just how to tag each bookmark when there are no specific pairings to speak of.

Also, I noticed while going through the early parts that there are a lot of crossover requests, which could make for a very nice crossover index.

This other anon might start a new one (or maybe Germany in general, organized by pairing?), just to have some sort of fandom participation because I'm failing pretty hard at making friends and to shy to deanon any of my fics on the maincomm. It'll be pretty slow going but I'm definitely considering it.

I'm a very OTP person, you might say. I usually request, write and read fills exclusively for my OTP.

That said, I do like many other pairings but only occasionally read fills for them because I'm not as comfortable writing for them as I am for my OTP. "Tsundere" characters in particular are not ones I can write well for, so even though USUK and Spamano are pairings I love, I stick to reading about them only.

Plus, these kind of pairings already have a lot of fills written by amazingly talented anons, whereas my OTP doesn't have as many writers for it (even though the ones that do are great), so I like to "spread the love" for my OTP that's somewhat less-loved compared to my other favorite pairings that are much more popular.

Anon, I'm the England indexer and, if you want, I can send you the FrUK requests.

I request scenarios that I want to explore. Many of those senarios don't have anything to do with porn which is probably why no one's really paid any attention to them.

Do it please! You can always start an index on Delicious or Diigo or something and call yourself by a different username! Although if I knew who you were I would friend you

Now anon wants a crossover index.

I'm going through Part 1 right now! It's kind of fun because I showed up around part 10 and it's neat to see how meme culture has changed since then.

I think I'll just start a comm - I'm even more socially fail than Germany but I doubt there's much opportunity for social fail when I'm just indexing/tagging so it should be OK. You probably wouldn't orz but that's sweet
