Fill for Hong Kong crying in shower?

(Anonymous) 2011-04-24 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to be a bother, but does anyone know where the fill for the request that asked for Hong Kong crying in the shower? There were two, I think, and I think I'm looking for the second one...

Thank you in advance, authornon was stupid again and forgot to bookmark it...

looking for a GerIta fic where Germany and Italy watches a movie where the dog dies

(Anonymous) 2011-04-24 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking for a fill where Germany and Italy were watching I Am Legend and Italy was sad because Will Smith had to kill his dog. Prussia walks in and sees Germany and Italy crying and laughs at Germany, until he watches I Am Legend and starts crying at the dog scene. Dose anyone have the link to that fill?

Comments...?

(Anonymous) 2011-04-25 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
If this is against the policy, just delete it.

How do you get people to notice/comment on your fills? Imean, I see some fills that have gazillions of comments and are showered in love, and then others get virtually nothing. I really appreciate all the comments I get, but I just don't get it.

Or is it that I have to write USUK having sex?

and now I sound self-piteoys which is no. 1 to not getting any responses. I'm doing well!

so fucking long I had to cut it in two

(Anonymous) 2011-04-25 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No no, I think a lot of authors here can sympathise. (The first part is more to do with your fill which... has nothing to do with your comment lol but I wrote it out and realised and couldn't bring myself to delete it because SO LONG - the end points are more to do with 'getting noticed')

If you write USUK having sex but your fill is littered with grammar and spelling mistakes, obvious lack of knowledge of basic human anatomy and extremely ooc characterisation, people probably aren't going to enjoy it and aren't going to comment.

1) Make sure the spelling and grammar is correct. Usually little one-offs here and there are generally overlooked by readers if it's a good, interesting, well done, funny, and/or sexy fill - but if it's every second word then you really need to reread and/or get a beta.

2) Characterisation -> make it believable and don't ignore canon. America isn't going to suddenly jump into Latvia's arms and declare his undying love for him and then have wild sex with him for a number of reasons. Everyone's interpretations are different and everyone fills in blanks in canon differently. Reread the strips, make your own judgement that doesn't completely come out of the left ballpark, JUSTIFY and keep it CONSISTENT.

3) Fact checking - fail!facts will get you comments, but not the ones you want. This includes but is not limited to historical events and figures, current events, human anatomy, cultural customs and beliefs, religious beliefs and practices, languages.

4) Humour. Humour is a wonderful thing and the odd one liner, anecdotes, running gags, wit and sarcasm and such usually make people want to mention to the author that 'Wow, *this line* can't stop laughing' etc. Also know that your sense of humour is not everyone's cup of tea. Black humour (humour noir)can be done well but it's not for everyone. Be aware of cultural differences and rethink your choice of jokes if you're worried there could be racist, sexist, etc implications.

5) a- Originality. This is hard to well, do really since you're restricted by the prompt PLUS the restrictions caused by canon. Take a different angle. For example, say the prompt is for Russia and a field of sunflowers. Well, you could take that literally with Russia actually in a field of sunflowers - or you could take a different angle. Maybe Russia is looking out a car window at a field of sunflowers and feeling a sense of longing. Maybe he's painting a field of sunflowers. Maybe he's got a picture of a field of sunflowers on his shirt of shoes or something. Maybe he gets a tattoo of a field of sunflowers. Don't restrict yourself to conventional ideas, take an overdone idea and try something different with it.

5) b-An extension of that is a pairing never done before or rarer pairings. If a rarepair has been requested on the meme then someone wants to see it and rarepairs usually have a faithful following. People who see it on the fill list might want to check it out for the hell of it and if it's done well and there's some sort of justification for the pairing (or maybe even not, for example the historical strangers request) then chances are you'll get a number of comments and maybe you'll even 'convert' someone. Sometimes people are more inclined to check out an any/any fill filled with a rarepair or something never done before rather than a popular one.

6) Do. Not. Bash. If you think this character is in the way of the couple in the fill and you need to kill them off because they're undeserving and they're a slut, asshole, bully, grinch, whatever- have a break, have a KitKat. Someone WILL point it out and then the wank starts. Rethink your character choices and the direction you're taking with your fill. Do NOT let your own bias and prejudice flow into the fill if it's unnecessary. At times you'll need it for making decisions, but purely putting character a into the fill for no reason other than to bash them is just going to start wank.

To All the People Posting Fills and Updates Multiple Times

(Anonymous) 2011-04-25 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that some people have been having difficulty with their fills showing up, and end up posting the fills and fill updates multiple times in their respective threads. This is because updates won't show up if you AREN'T LOGGED IN.

So log in and you'll see all the updates. If you don't have an account and your fills aren't showing up, don't post them again, because they do show up for those who are logged in.

Thank you. :D

America, Canada and a moose. Link?

(Anonymous) 2011-04-25 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone remember this one fill, it was based on a YouTube video and it had America and Canada in it, with a moose in Canada's back yard? Could anyone possibly link me, I'd really appreaciate it!
I think it was called something like 'The not epic tactics of America' but it might be slightly different.

Help finding fic

(Anonymous) 2011-04-25 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
In [livejournal.com profile] hetaliakinkchat an anon mentioned a story in which America gets upset when he finds England's vibrators (thinking he's not good enough) and then is distracted by the shiny sex toys. Does anyone know where I can find it? Unsure!America is one of my favourite things and this sounds like a story I would love.

This one?

(Anonymous) 2011-04-26 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Here's a fic that fits that description perfectly, but it's actually not on the meme. (It could have been originally, though!)

Surely this is the one they were talking about:

Delicious indexes...

(Anonymous) 2011-05-01 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Just a message to the indexers! Delicious was bought out by another company. They're giving users until the end of May to login and convert their bookmarks to the new site, IIRC.

Except one thing... Apparently the new site's TOS states they'll delete your account if you post links that are "defamatory, obscene, pornographic, vulgar or offensive". But IDK how strongly they'll enforce this, so... I'm not sure what to do about this. :/

Disappeared critical reviews!

(Anonymous) 2011-05-02 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
There's a certain fic that was recently posted, one which attempted to tackle a rather heavy subject and which perhaps did not handle it gracefully. There were several reviews that were critical of this fic, pointing out flaws and potentially offensive subject matter, as well as several reviews that were positive about the fic. Then lo and behold, I looked at another fic posted for the same prompt, only to notice that the above-mentioned fic had almost all its reviews erased! Except for one very positive review and a single one-sentence comment that said something to the effect of "Uh, what you did here is kind of troublesome".

This makes me suspicious... is that Author-Anon one of the mods or something? It's not as if the comments crossed the line into personal threat territory here. As far as I was aware, we could still post and comment if a fic was bad or had some major flaws.

This comes across as rather sad and pathetic to this Anon. Are the Author-Anon's feelings so delicate that s/he cannot handle anything less than a glowing review? Are the mods deleting anything the least bit inflamatory? I know I've seen some bitch-squabble fights on here far nastier than anything in this reviews.

Re: Disappeared critical reviews!

(Anonymous) 2011-05-02 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that the A!A is a mod, but there's a trend to delete every non-flattering comment no matter how polite it is. The points made in that thread were great and quite interesting. No one was being rude, no one was insulting anyone... just people disagreeing. It makes me sad that people can't say anything negative without being treated like a troll.

Dear anons

(Anonymous) 2011-05-06 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
When writing serious!fic, does canon or history take precedence, especially when the two simply aren't compatible.

Secondly, how would you write a country at war with itself?

Re: Dear anons

(Anonymous) 2011-05-07 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Canon. The trick is making history work with canon, not picking one in detriment of the other. If a story is too far away from canon, then I think it's not longer fanfiction (Note: this is about characterisation. General tone and specific themes can change and should change from canon, but the characters should be recognisable)

You mean a civil war? I think it depends on the country. I don't think the War of Roses is the same that the Spanish Civil War or the Wars of Religion or even the Russian Civil War. Thy are different processes. For example: I think the Spanish Civil War could be shown as two Spains against each other but I don't think the War of Roses would have two Englands.

Does it make sense?

So...

(Anonymous) 2011-05-08 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Suppose an anon wanted to give writing smuttier stuff a try, but likes to know the mechanics of how things work so they don't sound like the complete and total virgin smut writer they are... where would they go about learning stuff like this? (Not so much sex, but how things (toys? - vibrators, cock rings, etc) work.)

This is probably the wrong place to ask, but I'm not really sure where the right place would be. If you do know, please direct me there.

Some helpful links and a bit of advice from a fellow virgin smutfic writer

(Anonymous) 2011-05-08 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
There's been a few discussions on how to write smut correctly, unfortunately I seem to have only bookmarked one:

http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/17907.html?thread=65551347#t65551347

And I've seen links to this comm:

http://writing-sex.livejournal.com/

Although I haven't had the need to use it. But even just lurking it should prove fruitful for you.

Other than that, looking at descriptions of toys, Google, and reading porn should help. Just be sure you find lots of different sources so you know what you're reading is right! A lot of porn out there is incorrect, so if you're not sure on how a cock ring or a prostate massager works then Google is your best friend.

Being a female who writes yaoi, I obviously don't have any first hand experience at what sex between two males feels like, or what having a penis feels like (and being a virgin even what having one inside me feels like), so I've learned mostly through reading lots of porn. Lots and lots of porn. XD And if I don't understand the mechanics of something, I look it up. (I have done a loooooot of research on how sounding works, for example, because I wanted to fill a prompt asking for it. I also have perused many an online sex toy shop for ideas for previous prompts. And for lulz. Those descriptions and names can be freaking funny.)

Just remember that sex is a very sensual ting, so focus on how things feel rather than what every single thing each person involved does. And don't rush it unless the sex is supposed to be fast paced, and even then, don't gloss over it and have it be done in a paragraph or two. Taking your time and showing what the characters are feeling helps avoids the dreaded "IKEA sex" feeling and adds emotional weight to your writing, even if it doesn't go beyond lust, which is what you want! And practice! Write smutty oneshot scenes until you think you've got the mechanics down, and try to keep what you're doing as vivid in your mind's eye as possible to cut down on "He's got a hand in his hair, one on his cock, and one cupping his ass? Since when does he have three hands?" and "that doesn't bend that way!" accidents that tend to plague inexperienced smut writers. (Editing helps this a lot, so edit heavily. I know it's a pain, but it's more of a pain to find out you've got a massive mistake AFTER you've posted...)

Good luck to you~

France Index?

(Anonymous) 2011-05-17 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Would anyone be interested?
I'm thinking of making an index and wondering about which character/pairing/group indexes people would like to see. I noticed that France didn't have one (that I can see) and he's quite a popular character, but I don't really want to make an index that no one really wants to use when I could make one that's more helpful.

So, is there a demand for a France Index?

Are there any indexes you're desperate to see that haven't been made yet?

Re: France Index?

(Anonymous) 2011-05-17 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm actually making a France Index right now, but there is definitely a demand for one, last time I posted about it. I've only been wary about posting it, because I remembered reading a discussion about when to post indexes. I'm already 1500+ bookmarks into it, so I'll be telling the mods about it. I made people wait for too long.

Um, but if there are character indexes I'd like to see most, it's Italy and Germany.

I hope this is the right place for asking this. This morning (about 3 hours ago) I saw some interesting new fills, which I would have liked to read, but now they seem to have kinda... disappeared from the fill list. The only one that I particularly remember is a germencest fill with sex in the desert and an update to germany/fem!france though.
Does anyone know what happened to those fills? I can't find them apart from the fill list either.

They're still there for me, page 193 right after the Prussia/Canada one.

Here are the links though (Livejournal is probably just being weird again)

(also, anon, don't forget to make sure you're signed in, or else some fills won't show up in the fills list)

Looking for OP of Firefly prompt + question

(Anonymous) 2011-05-20 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
So, I'm looking for the OP of the Firefly prompt (here: http://hetalia-kink.livejournal.com/17942.html?thread=57754902#t57754902) in Part 15 because I had a few questions.

Also, other anons: if OP does not respond, would it be okay to change a few character choices and still post? Or would that go too much against the idea of "prompt"?
