Re: America + Austria - Fail!navigation Duo Part 2/?

Roderich was waiting for Alfred to arrive. He gave the blond the address and whatnot, but he wasn't there and it was forty-five minutes since he first called. Time was not friends with Roderich, as lost time made him annoyed to the point that if a person was even thirty minutes late, he would snap at them.

To pass the time, he sat in his private room playing a song by Bach on the piano when he heard the doorbell ring. Roderich got up and grabbed his things as he opened the door. There, standing on the porch, was Alfred. "Where were you!?" Roderich asked in an annoyed manner. "I'm sorry Rod," Alfred said, "But I took a little detour to avoid traffic." That must've been some detour, since Alfred was late.

"Are we going to the pier? I know how to get down to Santa Monica from here, but not the pier." Roderich said calmly as he locked the door and followed Alfred to the car."Trust me Roderich," Alfred smiled, "I have a map, so there is no way we're going to get lost!" This made the Austrian smile as he got in and buckled up. Alfred got in and started the car as Roderich hummed a little song.

It was a few minutes into their journey to Santa Monica Pier and so far, Alfred knew where he was going. Roderich looked around like a child in the car and was looking confident.

Sadly, as stated in Murphy's Law, something that could go wrong will go wrong, and the first mistake was made when Alfred took the wrong exit. Roderich was listening to Elvis Presley (he was a closet fan) and was oblivious to notice. He noticed this too late as they were driving towards Long Beach.

Upon seeing this mistake, Roderich shouted "STOP!!" Alfred slammed the brakes and pulled over onto the side of the freeway. "What did I do?" He asked. "Well Alfred, you were driving towards Santa Monica quite nicely when you made a turn on the wrong exit. Aa a result, we're closer to Long Beach." Roderich said and crossed his arms.

"No way!" Alfred snapped and pulled out his map. He traced his finger on the route he and Roderich and noticed that the Austrian was right. Great. "Now Alfred, we need to take this exit." Roderich said as he pointed to the suggested exit. "We can make up for lost time that way!" Alfred nodded and drove towards the exit.

After making that turn, the American asked, "Now what?" Roderich read the directions for his proposed route like it was a piece of cake. "That away, we can enjoy an evening and avoid traffic!" The Austrian said proudly. "Whatever you say Rod..." Alfred shrugged as he drove.

Things went smoothly for the next ten miles. No confusion, just the two driving to get to their destination.

However, the next mistake was made when Roderich was bored of the Rolling Stones and asked if he could listen to "Break my Stride" by Matthew Wilder. Alfred nodded and put the cassette in. The reggae music filled the car, and soon Roderich was talking about the Unique II version. Alfred defended the original, and he was so distracted that he forgot to turn right and ended up going straight!

The two were still bickering and more Matthew Wilder songs played when Roderich saw different street signs and ordered Alfred to stop. "What's wrong Roderich?" The American asked before he face-palmed. They had gotten lost. Again.

Alfred pulled into a parking lot to go to the bathroom, but Roderich had a request. "Since you get easily distracted, I suggest I should drive." He said calmly. "You, drive? Pheesh, you're gonna get us lost!" Alfred retorted. Roderich only glared as he was handed the keys and got in the driver's seat.

Things were going smoothly as the Austrian drove. The music was changed to a classic station, and Alfred was feeling bored. The music changed from a Mass piece to On the Trail from the Grand Canyon Suite by Ferde Grofe. He lighted up and hummed along, since this was the piece that was played on Disneyland's Grand Canyon diorama.   Roderich was surprised. "I thought you were bored by my taste of music." "Well," Alfred grinned, "They play a shortened version of this at Disneyland, and I always enjoyed it." Roderich nodded and hummed along with Alfred.

They were chatting so much about the musician that the Austrian made a mistake and went onto the wrong street. The song was over and the commercial was on as Roderich realized his mistake. "Idiot! You were supposed to tell me when I was supposed to make that turn!" He growled and nearly slapped Alfred. "It's not my fault. You were distracted with Grofe and his music!" Alfred shouted back.

That statement made Roderich cross, and the scene was made much more darker with a Chopin nocturne playing on the classic music station. He pulled out a pen and wrote on the back of an old receipt before handing it to Alfred. "'I must apologize, but until the situation improves, I will be speaking to you in Slovakian.'" Alfred was dumbstuck. Not only was he horrible with directions, he was also horrible with any language that wasn't Spanish. He was now in for a multilingual adventure.

The drive was silent as more classical music played on the radio. Alfred was silent and Roderich was mad, and if Alfred said a word, he would get scolded in Slovakian. As they drove to Santa Monica Pier, Alfred's stomach growled. He was hungry, and he needed to eat. But would he want to risk getting yelled at in a language he didn't know? The hero streak within him grew, and the American asked, "Roderich, I know you're mad at me, but I'm hungry."

Roderich saw a fast-food place up ahead (they were taking surface streetsto avoid traffic) and pulled to that place like that. "(Well, what are you waiting for? Get out and order something! )" He said in a demanding tone. "Okay Rod, I'll get a special and you can get a cup of coffee!" After ordering the meals and getting them, Alfred brought the food out to the car, careful not to spill the coffee. Roderich took a small sip and gulped hard. "(This coffee tastes like burned dish water! But I suppose I'll deal with it.)" He complained and cursed in Slovakian as he drank his coffee and ate his meal.

After the two ate, Alfred asked Roderich if he could drive. Roderich grumbled something about getting lost and permitted him to do so. The drive was silent and the radio station was unchanged. They were lost.

Alfred was driving along the route. Roderich wouldn't talk since he could explode into a fit in Slovakian. And the radio still played classical music.

Alfred was relieved that they would get there soon, since he drove into Santa Monica. At a traffic light, he looked at Roderich and said, "Roderich, we're close. I'm sorry for getting you mad and stuff, so when we get to the pier, I'll let you choose the first ride."

This made Roderich turn to Alfred and lightly smile. The light turned green, and Alfred drove. "At least I'm speaking in English again. I often revert to Slovakian and many more languages when I get annoyed, and I apologize if it confused you." Alfred smiled and replied, "I forgive you Rod."

Forgiveness was the last mistake, and the two got misrouted as they tried to find a gas station since the fuel tank was almost empty. As a result, they were farther from the pier instead of closer to it. Alfred cursed while Roderich laughed. The Amerian chuckled as well as they found a gas station.

After fueling up, a promise of no more screw-ups was made, and soon, they were close to the pier. Success! Roderich had since changed the radio to rock, and he looked content. So did Alfred, and he strummed along.

The two arrived at the pier and were soon having a blast! Roderich had requested to ride on one ofthe roller coasters, and Alfred did so easily. Afterwards, they soon went on a couple of other rides and were ready to relax on the Ferris Wheel.

While waiting in line, Alfred asked, "Rod, do you want to drive home or do you want me to?" The Austrian answered with, "I suppose I can drive us home. And you're welcome to sleep at my place." This made the American smile.

After a few hours, the duo decided to go home, and Roderich stepped in to drive. Things were going smoothly until they got lost on the freeway.

Let's just say Roderich and Alfred were laughing the whole drive home and ho back at two in the morning!

This is my first completed story, and I feel relieved that I finished!
