Every day when he's waiting at the bus stop Arthur sees Francis, a shiny but strange boy at the other side of the street, waiting for the bus in the opposite direction. Francis starts to flirt a bit, nothing big and at first Arthur ignores it. But time passes and Arthur's life is not easy (you can come up with some reasons, he's just a troubled teenage boy after all) and he starts to smile back at Francis, even looks forward to see Francis again. But they never talk.
One day Arthur passes the street (maybe Francis provocated him or Arthur is just man enough to make the next move) and starts to talk to Francis. But Francis doesn't reply. Arthur thinks he's rude and arrogant. But when the bus arrives, Francis gets in and greets the bus driver, using sign language. That's when Arthur realizes Francis is deaf-mute and hid it all the time.
Back home Arthur tries to learn some sign language "basics" so he can say hi to Francis. If it works... well, that's up to you ;) I see Francis a bit more insecure here since he might think Arthur wouldn't like him if he knew the truth.
Possible filler here! Do you mind if I maybe age them up a bit? You describe them as teenagers, but I'd prefer to write them as college age. If not, that's fine. Also, for Arthur's problems at home, is it okay if I give him brothers? (Scotland, Ireland, etc.)
