They do actually care for each other, at least a little. But that's overlaid by personality clashes and bad history and several centuries of epic sibling rivalry, so much that Sweden knows the only way they've got a chance of sharing a house semi-peacefully is if they've got something else to band together against. I can definitely see them becoming more amicable in the future, once Kristina takes the throne and they don't have their current bosses being, well, monarchs.
I pretty much just write as it comes! There are a few more ideas floating around -- I can think of things to do with France and Canada, maybe Switzerland or Italy -- so there will probably be more, but it's not really planned out.
I'm very sorry but I'm going to just pour various ideas I've had into this comment box. You may use, insult or ignore them at your discretion.
I don't want to dictate what you write, but I must tell you that I would absolutely love to see your take on Switzerland. I forced myself to read through the Cannon Law, just to see the Swiss guards in action. The image of Bash being introduced to 21 century guns is a very pleasant one.
Or even him trying to sell neutrality to Germany. The USE is trying to avoid all out war, she might listen and get flashbacks to America's isolation phase.
Italy would be Venice? AKA the place where they break people's legs and hang them over the docks to drown/cut off people's ears and nail them to walls? That'll be fun.
Canada and France: vast amounts of passive aggressive guilt being pushed onto France by mostly abandoned Canada, who also wants to mention that his Southern neighbour is not taking French ownership well. Things being set on fire not well. And England is coping even less well over America being sold from him to France. The words "Get me my ship and cutlass, I'm going frog hunting." may have been said...
The funny thing is that I do have an idea for England talking to/arguing with somebody over selling America to France, but I can't remember where in the timeline that happens, which means I can't figure out who he'd be talking to, because there was a power change in England at some point, and since the Baen Free CD library got taken down it's harder to do quick fact-checks. (Not that I blame them for it! But it does mean a lot of poking around trying to figure out if I've got the books with the relevant info in.)
