When America first met Canada he asked England if she was gonna be his (America's) wife. Thinking it was cute England played along and said yes. Canada is not quite sure just what happened when the boy she's told is her brother tackle-hugs her but has a bad feeling feeling about it.
Time moves on, and with the exception of a few bumpy patches, which were really between America and England and not her, the matter seems to go to rest. Until it becomes apparent that it hasn't. America isn't overtly possessive, not really, but he wasn't around this much a while ago...uhm, why's his arm always around her shoulders or waist!?
Extra: you know those old political comics where Mother Britannia asks if Canada ever encouraged Cousin Johnathon? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CanadianAmericaRelationsCartoon1886.gif) yeah, how about an awkward conversation between England and Canada who just stares at him in disbelief?
tl;dr: it's England's fault that America's been stalking Canada
