Songs and Steel [ooc]

-One shot only, sorry. It was like pulling teeth getting the muses together for this one. I had thought to make this a little like a Patricia C. Wrede story with wry good humor but it ended up being a little less satirically comical than I had wanted.
-Princess Louisa’s tactics were based considerably on the wily Black Agnes of Scotland, who fended off a siege with wits, charisma and more than a hint of psychological viciousness. Her appearance was based a bit on Caterina Sforza, who had similar charisma but rather more vindictiveness.
-Eagle standard – Austria & Prussia (I figure they are possibly cousins in this particular ‘verse and would have similar if not necessarily identical standards)
-Falcon standard – Hungary, as the national bird is the mythical Turul, which was supposedly based in part on a falcon
-I think that Lousia (fem!Germany) would have a slight complex about not being seen as feminine (a la Makoto/Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon) as well as being seen as “scary.” And we know that Feliciano finds German women scary…. I like to think that the reason for this would be her getting a very haphazard education and upbringing, knowing that she has to be competent, wise, and worthy, but also that there are prescribed roles for women in society that she doesn’t always fit. She’s also pretty young and not quite old enough to not give a damn about what other people think. On the other hand, her personal motto at this point would probably be, “What I have, I keep.” Gold star if you know where it comes from.)

I really liked this fill and I hope whoever requested it enjoys it too. I like the idea of fem!Germany being hard as nails, but still somewhat insecure, because no one is 100% confident in themselves. And Italy being frightened, but in awe of her was really cute, especially when he talked about wanting to paint her picture. Lovely stuff. :D

I loved this and I think you did a fantastic job with the characterization, particularly with Louisa. Even though it was a one-shot, it felt more developed than a lot of multi-chapter fics I've read. Brilliant work!
