I'm blanking on the sword--even with the description, and it's making me feel wretched. I am loving that fact that Alfred's going to be toting one now. It's just fitting.
Taps automatically makes me tear up, adding the burial for Alfred's guns did me in, and the fact that it was actually America singing it. Wow. I'm such a weeper! That part really got me. I want to hug Alfred so badly! The visual I'm getting from a tall, gangly Alfred with a gun half his height makes me think of Wart in Sword in the Stone, but a bit older I suppose. I can see Francis fussing at Alfred for lack of flair and details, and Arthur berating him for lack of technique. The two of them teaching him together...that sounds like all sorts of awkward, and fighting.
A!A, I admire you for your work with the dragon names. A few of the words I remembered, but I confess that I did look up a couple of them, because my OE skills are a few years rusty now that I'm out of college.
I recall a Dirty Harry reference, that seemed rather deliberate--and you are brilliant for that. I can't think of the other reference.
As for your proposal, who in the world would perform the ceremony? And, I'm not sure my bf would like it. But, if you keep writing great stuff just as you have been, I'll be happy. :)
