Crowe 2d/?

Alright, and here Alfred grinned, and dashed out of the room, trotting down the stairs and into the study. He carefully moved aside the collection of American authors on Arthur’s shelves, revealing a safe. Quickly, he spun the dial. 12-3-11-12-21… Everyone expected something simple from him, a birthday perhaps, or an anniversary. No, he was a bit better than that. U-S-A-U-K, in Morse code, American Morse code, taking the longs for the tens place and the shorts for the ones resulted in that particular number sequence. Even Arthur had been impressed, and Alfred knew that he had in turn done something with code flags for one of his things. The safe sprang open, and Alfred carefully extracted two beauties, M1911s, and lovingly stroked them. Bess and Amy, it’d been a long time since he’d seen these two girls. He checked the cartridges. 7 + 1, perfect, safety locked. No dust, and they seemed to move fine. Good. He picked up the holster, and slung it around his waist. This one, fortunately, he was able to cinch tight enough. He tucked Bess and Amy into their spots, and grabbed the extra magazines. He suddenly wished he’d kept more. Alfred closed the safe, replaced the books, and stood to grab a backpack or something. He was very, very glad he and Arthur had made a deal about these. It had taken some fighting, but Alfred had eventually gotten a compromise. Arthur hated guns in the house, but Alfred insisted that as long as Arthur had his freaky magic stuff, Alfred got to keep guns.

After eventually finding a backpack in the closet from the ill-fated camping trip in Scotland a couple of years ago, Alfred dashed around the house, packing what he needed, but morosely mindful that he wouldn’t be able to carry as much as he’d like. Umbrella, water, food, a water filter, a knife, a lightweight sleeping bag, oil and cloth for Bess and Amy, first aid kit. Keys, wallet, phone, phone charger, with plug adaptor. Photo of Arthur. Alfred made himself laugh a little with the possibility of Lost/Reward posters, but thought Arthur himself wouldn’t be amused.

Alfred shoved it all in Arthur’s Ford Focus. There was no way he could get a flight from here to Dublin without exorbitant cost and lines, and besides, he had guns, something no British Airline (or any, for that matter) would allow on board. After plugging in Dublin to his phone’s GPS map program, he figured four hours wasn’t bad from here to Liverpool, and then just a ferry ride across. Seriously, everyone in this country thought a drive longer than an hour was a huge deal. Really, there were states where he could drive twelve hours in a straight line and still not exit the state. He knew a lot about road trips.

Alfred sat himself in the driver’s seat, and took a deep breath, running a hand back through his hair in a nervous habit. This had to work, this had to, had to work. Turning the key in the ignition, he chanted to himself, Drive on the left, drive on the left, and pulled out of the driveway. Time to go see Connall.

Here's part 2! Hope you like it. If you're curious about the drive times, it's California, actually, and I've done it. This is slightly AU in that Alfred does know about Arthur's magic and to a certain extent accepts it. It is kinda necessary, because for anything cool to happen, Alfred can't be spinning around about whether everything is real or not. I won't be able to update for the next four days or so most likely, so I hope this suffices for now! Please review!

I'm really enjoying this, a!anon. You're managing a nice balance between Alfred's silly and his smarts.

Some things about this story are familiar to me, though...If you're who I think you are, anon, does this story follow in the same timeline as the original appearance of Crowe?

A!anon here! No I'm not (unfortunately), and no it doesn't though I absolutely loved that. The fae are slightly different here than in hers. I drew Crowe from a book of folklore from the British Isles, with the trickster, Crowe, being an interesting figure. More will be revealed about him later, hopefully sooner if I can get the next chapter out before I leave.

So just to clarify, it does NOT follow that timeline, with the Kirklands having their first experience with Crowe two millennia ago.

I also realized I made a mistake! His boss's number is supposed to be '3'.

Thanks to everyone who reviewed!
