Um, this is not actually writer!anon, I'm the other anon that posted before x_x I just really wanted to fill this...so I hope this doesn't throw off writer!anon, please post your fill, I'm still dying to read it! Just think of this as an appetizer!fill until writer!anon is ready.
Korea sat at his table pensively, staring out the window to a gray spring day in Seoul. He held a newspaper in his hand, the only thing he had bothered to read were the casualties of that boat that had sunk so suddenly. Forty six of his people dead and a ship destroyed. Naturally his first reaction was to blame North Korea, it had been his torpedo after all, even if all he continued to do was deny it. The boy sighed, likening his frustration to the air being forced out of his lungs. They had been doing okay for awhile, only to have relations crumble yet again.
He hated it, he hated having to deal with his brother like the stubborn enemy he was. It made Korea feel like he was in a war again, or a race that they were both destined to lose in one way or another, and it left him feeling incredibly lonely.
Korea read over the list of names again, senseless deaths, he drew a shaky breath when he continued to read below that North Korea wanted to cut off all ties and communications, which he knew of already. They had argued about it for a long time, he remembered getting angrier and angrier as all his brother did was deny. The anger hadn't really subsided.
"...Da ze! This sucks!" Korea yelled, hoping it would get him out of his melancholic mood. After all, sadness wasn't the Korean way! He had to cheer up somehow, brooding in his room wouldn't do any good.
"I know. I'll go see Aniki, he'll know what to do." he stated to no one in particular. China always made him feel better, even if it was often at the other nation's expense. Korea forced his spirits up with the idea of copping a feel or two on China's chest, or teasing him a bit, or just hearing his voice. With his constant attitude of disapproval covered affection that Korea could remember all the way from childhood, China never failed to make Korea feel more at ease.
His aniki's house was quiet, so quiet that Korea was afraid that he might not be home. But when he let himself in he found China sitting on his back porch, hunched over what was most likely some business papers. Korea took in the way his shoulders were bunched up with tension, the casual way his long hair draped down his back, how perfectly his back arched forward. He was seized by the desire to step in front of him and wriggle into his lap, like the old days. Of course if he did that now he'd get yelled at, like he always did. China would barely talk to him voluntarily, much less touch him. He thought with a sickening theory that that probably wasn't the case for North Korea. He swallowed the bile threatening to rise in his throat, who cared about North Korea anyway?!
"Aniki!! What'cha doing?" he ran up behind China, casting his arms over his compact little shoulders.
"Aiyaa!! Where did you come from, aru?!"
"I...I wanted to talk..."
China looked at him, their cheeks brushing as he moved his head. Korea noticed how warm he was from sitting in the sunshine.
"Eh? What's with you? You've never asked that before, aru."
"I mean-well, conversation was made in me, so of course I sometimes just want to talk!" Korea answered hastily, covering the unusual waver that had been in his voice. China sighed and stood up,
"Well I don't. I'm busy, aru! Go bother Japan or something."
Korea planted his hands on the wooden floor, and then planted a smile on his face, "But Aniki...hey! What if I helped you with your work? Then we can hang out!"
"Hmph, this is important. Go sit somewhere and behave, aru. Why can't you be quiet, like your brother?"
It was such a small comment, something China said rather often, but at the moment it made Korea stop in his tracks. He went silently to the kitchen table and sat, staring at the etchings and marks of the old antique. Compared to outside, it felt too cold in the kitchen.
China closed the door and took notice of the unusual calm, he was startled to see Korea actually sitting quietly at the table, a glazed look in his eyes. It was so rare to find anything other than cheerful energy in the Korean's face, seeing how glum he looked filled China with pity. He sat across from him,
"I might as well finish up here then, aru."
Korea made a little sound of acknowledgment, and didn't make another for several minutes. This just concerned China further, wondering what was making the boy act so out of character.
"...Hey Aniki?" Korea finally spoke up, his voice heavy with what China assumed was unuse.
"Hm?"
He cleared his throat, "You know how brother shot down one of my ships?..." he hesitated for a moment, and decided to pound the table, making China leap, "It really pisses me off! And he's the one getting all angry! I want to ask what you think I should do."
China looked up irritably, "Don't hit this table!" he was too irked to note the drastic change in Korea's demeanor. But he continued,
"Well I'm really angry!"
"You're smiling, aru!"
"But Aniki! He's pulling all our agreements and everything!" Korea jumped to his feet, "Da ze! He's getting mad because I'm telling him the truth! I hate him sometimes."
"That's silly. He didn't shoot down your ship, aru."
Korea blinked, then stared at China to make sure he was serious. His cool brown eyes were hard set. Looking at each other with such intensity made Korea's heart suddenly speed up, and he felt he had to look away so he could refocus.
"Yes he did! His own torpedo, I saw it myself!"
China scowled, "You just want to blame North Korea so you don't look silly, his torpedo couldn't sink a ship like that, aru." and with that he returned to his papers. Korea was dumb struck for a moment. China was defending his brother, calling the tragedy his own mistake. He realized his mouth had fallen open, and shut it, grinding his teeth.
"Aniki, you...you don't think it was him at all? Look at how much he overreacted!" he yelled so his voice could deceive itself, to stop the shaking he felt in his chest.
China sighed, "No, Korea. I don't. I know for sure it couldn't have been his own weapons, it's impossible, now you stop overreacting yourself, aru."
Korea felt the pressure building behind his eyes and snapped them shut. Why had he even gone over here in the first place? He should have known China would defend his favorite, but he had been too blinded by his own feelings that had twisted into hollow hope. He should have just stayed home, wallowing in mourning and frustration for his people, at least he wouldn't have had to deal with any more harsh reality. Just the realization of how much of an idiot he had been made his entire body ache. He hated North Korea for now, but he hated the relationship he had with China even more. China was supposed to be his, dammit!
"You would know what that missile could do, since you gave it to him like everything else!" Korea's emotional accusation flew from his mouth before he could stop. China's head snapped up with perfect grace, turning to stare at the young man.
"Why do you like him so much anyway?! He's-" Korea struggled to save face after his outburst, "he's not even as successful as I am. Success originated in me, you know! You still give him everything and you never get mad at him!"
China, now completely dumbfounded, finally opened his mouth to speak, but Korea cut him off, "Since I'm fine on my own I'll keep doing that. I didn't need to come over here. I'm fine-" and then came that horrifying moment of weakness when the tears sprang into his eyes, he had to finish and then he could retreat, "-I'm fine without your help, Aniki." and with that he spun on his heels and took off.
Why had things worked out in such a horrible way? All Korea had wanted was some sympathy. His people had just been slaughtered, he was fighting with his brother again, and he had foolishly hoped China would be the one to comfort him. Maybe for once Korea had been wrong, he should have known his former caretaker would have just taken North's side like he always did. Through blurry eyes he grabbed the door to the living room so he could leave, but his other hand was suddenly pulled back.
"Korea, wait!"
He tugged desperately from China's grip, his heart was pounding, a lump worked steadily up his throat, the tears in his eyes threatened to spill at any moment, he was losing control.
"Hey! L-lemme go!" he thrashed against China, but the man's size defied his iron strength.
"What was that all about, aru?!"
"Stop!!" was his avoidance of an answer.
Soon China gave up talking, and shoved him against the wall, pinning both his arms. The fright and surprise made Korea's last ounce of resolve finally crumble. A sob broke free and the tears spilled over, making China's expression impossible to decipher. Now if there was anything left for Korea to hate, it was looking this pathetic in front of the man he didn't even need. It just made him feel worse as he hiccuped and weakly twisted in China's grip,
"W-w-why did you-you f-follow me? L-leave me...leave m-!" he was cut off by a broken sob, the tears dripped onto his hanbok, since his hands were pinned he couldn't wipe at them or the snot beginning to run down his nose. It mingled in his mouth like a gross mixture, but it didn't stop.
"I-I know you li-like him b-better, I t-t-told you...I-" his speech kept getting interrupted by gasps for air, he could barely talk now, "I-I don't care i-if y-y-you like him m-more. I-I'm fine by my-" he broke down, shuddering and wailing like a baby. Why did he do this now? He never cried, much less ever became reduced to states like this, especially not in front of someone else, especially China. Never China. And yet it was happening and all Korea could hope was that he wouldn't tease him or yell at him too much.
Korea felt his hands be released, only to feel himself in a crushing embrace a split second later. China's arms gathered Korea entirely, one hand snaking up to stroke his hair,
"You silly boy, aru. Stop crying."
As much as Korea wanted to obey, his body dissented. Another series of sobs made him shake, tears dripped into the crook of China's neck where he buried his face. Korea didn't return the embrace, he only focused on making himself quiet down.
"I know you're upset, what happened was very unfair. And I don't know who did it. I simply don't want to take sides, aru. I don't like choosing between you two." China said quietly, murmuring into Korea's ear.
"But-"
"Let's get something straight right now," China pulled away just enough so Korea could see his face. He still had the same determined look, but it was softer, gentler,
"I love you. I love you so much, Korea. I say you're annoying and loud but I wouldn't change you one bit, and I don't love your brother any more than you, got that, aru?"
Hearing what he wanted to hear so badly, and yet also the last thing he wanted China to say, made his throat constrict again. He cursed and pounded the wall with the back of his fist, bowing his head so China couldn't see him, but he lifted his chin up so their eyes met again.
"You don't get it do you? I love you. And I love North Korea. I give him things so one day he can be as good as you are, and then when he pesters me I won't mind it like when you pester me."
Korea blinked, trying to absorb what he had just said, "Don't m-mind?"
"No matter what your brother and I do, you have to know that you're special to me, Korea. I thought I didn't need to do anything to let you know that, aru."
Korea drew a few shaky breaths, and watched as China slowly smiled, a happy, loving smile, not the uneasy grimace he usually wore. Korea, who never needed any convincing to conclude that the older nation liked him, was quite overjoyed to have an actual confirmation of his affection. He buried himself back into China, clutching at him and drying his tears on the soft fabric of his jacket. China hugged back, muttering calming words between scoldings while Korea got his breathing under control,
"Stupid boy...it'll be okay. I've got you. I can't believe you sometimes..."
"Aniki..." he finally said after a long time, when his breath stopped doing that embarrassing, post-cry hitching, "...say it again?"
"Say what, aru?"
"That you love me."
China sighed and disconnected from Korea. He cupped the boy's face, gently kissed both cheeks, his nose, and then he settled onto his lips for a lot longer than what would ever be appropriate. Korea's face fell to complete surprise, and China couldn't resist smiling at that. Now he finally knew how to shut him up in the future.
"I love you, aru. And no matter what I say or do that has always been true, and it'll always be true, so don't forget it, aru."
Korea leaned in so their foreheads touched, and giggled inanely, "Heehee, Aniki said he loved me. I love you too! Now we should end this the Korean way!"
China caught the meaning immediately, he jumped back and shoved a palm in Korea's face. Secretly he felt a little cruel smacking his face when it was still so tear streaked, but clearly his mood had done a complete one-eighty. That was confirmed when Korea laughed,
"Da ze! I thought you said you love me!"
"Don't be indecent, aru! I still have work, so come sit quietly again." to make him obey China grabbed his hand, leading him into the kitchen. The trick worked, and Korea sat contentedly as China finished going through the documents. He looked up from a rather dry statement on some economic reform to watch Korea messing with his phone, no doubt playing some game, a small smile kept his face lit. Before China could stop he patted the boy's head. His entire face went pink, and his smile grew,
"Aniki..."
"I'm almost done, aru."
He sighed, "Oh. I have to go anyway, I got a text from my boss." Korea announced.
"Hm?"
The smile faded a little as he spoke, "He says some guys are coming over to investigate the sinking again...oh well. Mystery solving originated in me, so we should definitely-ow!"
China tapped his head again, "Don't say that, aru! Here, I'm done." China set down his pen and laced his fingers together, making the knuckles crackle loudly. Satisfied, he rose and stood in front of Korea, "Let's go see if they find anything."
Korea looked up, eyes wide, "You're coming with?"
"I'll help you find out what really happened, aru. I know it's important to you, so we can't let the perpetrator get-"
He stopped when he felt the younger nation grip his arm, his eroge was frowning, "But what if it was..."
"Then it is what it is, but let's worry about that later. Remember what I told you." he said, and he bent down to kiss Korea's forehead.
"Da ze! I'll remember!"
The younger nation happily took his hand, and as they walked outside China knew that Korea would remember, probably longer and more loudly than he would ever care to guess. But if somehow he forgot, China would be there to remind him.
Wow, I fail at writing hurt/comfort, sorry for the OOC-ness. So this is based on the sinking of the ROKS Cheonan that sank last March. (And I have Wikipedia to thank for all this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROKS_Cheonan_sinking) A lot of people think it was North Korea's doing, but China never really accused North Korea or made a lot of comments about it, and they're known for still helping the North out (giving them weapons and trading and stuff). So this fic is (loosely) based on that. I tried not to make any of the opinions too extreme or biased, so I hope it wasn't...too soon, to mention it. And sorry to realfiller!anon. I just really wanted to write something before I have to go back to school+work , a last hurrah, if you will. Please don't let me discourage you from posting your own fill!
Ffff! Thanks. I always imagined that if Korea ever did break down, he would fall hard, since he's always so hyper when he's happy. I'm glad you think they're IC too. :3
that was great, author!anon. *in awe* it had... everything. korea breaking down like that felt quite fitting, given the situation and how the chara is, and china's physical strength (finally someone who doesn't have china like a feminine, overly weak Nation! i love you, anon!♥♥♥), and how sweet china is, and the whole comforting scene, and his words...
(and the sweet ending, too. can't forget that).
it was just perfect, and not at all an appetizer!fill! it was a good first and second course for me, indeed X3 this anon loves it very much, and thanks the author!anon for writing it. X3 (i'm not OP, but i wish i were...)
Waah! Thank you so much! ^_^ Yeah I don't think China is wimpy either, like I think he could definitely take control of any situation if he wants to (well that was obvious, since I wrote him that way, derp). And I'm glad Korea didn't seem OOC to you. Heehee, I love writing happy endings, so I worked really hard that. I'm glad the fill was filling enough for you, anon. (bad pun-ish joke I know, OTL.) :P
Thank you anon! Don't worry, it doesn't seem biased to me at all and please don't apologise, it was wonderfully adorable and this pairing needs more fills!

(Anonymous) 2010-08-29 10:34 am (UTC)(link)that was great, author!anon.
