"Da, a confection from America for his Paskha. I heard you liked little yellow birds and heard about them, so I asked him to send some for you."

Something was wrong here, Prussia could sense it, that was why he wasn't quite seated anymore, but rather hovering just over the seat, ready to run. "You don't say? That's really thoughtful of you."

"Puzhalsta," he stated, smile in place and a carefree shrug to follow. "Come, it is in the kitchen, I wanted to show you." Russia walked out, confidant that Prussia would follow him until they reached the kitchen, Prussia's kitchen. The Russian reached into a cabinet and pulled out a box he probably hid there earlier. "Here. Is like your little bird, yes?"

For his part, Prussia was looking happily at the sugary confections. Little yellow birds with little red eyes, all lined up in a little box. They reminded him of Gilbird actually, Gilbird who was staying with West because Russia had some some crap about pet birds being some bourgeois luxury.

Russia seemed to take his reaction as confirmation before nodding. "But they are no good for eating, you see. Maybe that is why they are so cute!"

Well, Russia just said they were cute so Prussia nodded, but kept his hands to himself. "Yeah, too cute to eat by far."

"Yes, but I just wanted to show you why America's food is no good."

Prussia blinked as Russia turned to the microwave oven. What did that have to do with anything?

Preußenlied: was, for a time, the national anthem of the Kingdom of Prussia
Spasiba: roughly "thank you"
Paskha: Roughly translates to Easter, but it isn't usually observed on the same day around the world.
Puzhalsta: in this context, in reference to spasiba, a kind of "not at all".
microwave oven: If you couldn't tell, Russia is using Peeps. Yes, I did have to add them.}

Waaah, someone filled it! Thank you! I like the approach you took, setting it after WWI. That setting, where food was scarce and Prussia was even more afraid for Gilbird's safety, helped give the story a greater sense of conflict and made it a more interesting read. Austria singing Preußenlied was cute and I loved the part that was in Gilbird's POV. Thank you for a wonderful fill, anon♥♥

Aww, this was sweet! I particularly like the characterization - the characters feel like themselves but not at all over the top; with even USSR-era Russia having a kind moment! And Prussia being both cocky and brash and genuinely concerned about poor Gilbird...

I also really liked that Germany's glad Prussia's into a little bird instead of drugs, it made me laugh out loud :)

Soviet-era Russia's kind moment is actually sort lived. It is implied Russia will microwave the peeps in front of Prussia. Have you ever seen those things in a microwave? The result is why the story stops where it does. On the other hand, it's been jokingly suggested that peeps are near indestructible/in-dissolveable.

Yay! People like the writing I feared would be incoherent and lacking in depth or any redeemable trait! Well, that and hoping Germany wasn't coming off as too uncaring.

NO RUSSIA DON'T! YOU'LL KILL HIM! B'AAAWWW!

This was adorable~ I especially loved all of the bits from Gilbird's point of view.

Also I loved how the story moved, and how it was actually historically relevant instead of random modern-era shenanegans, and man when the narrative cut to Prussia with Russia I freaked out. Bit of a bittersweet ending, huh?

can I please have a list of other fills you've written or something because I would very much like to read more of this sort of thing please please *begging ~~puppy~~ little chick eyes*

I'm actually quite reluctant to provide a list as it feels like shameless advertising and this piece is a bit different from the others (more leeway for serious plot). I've gotten great feedback though, so I'll work on more things like this from now on. But, as requested...

Modern era PruAus WIP, because the internet seemed essential to plot. Humor and fluff. Will end sappy. Some notes at the end of specific parts.

PruAus some time in the 17th century, although that's only implied. Should have had footnotes. So much implied, but never directly stated just based on the year and individual lines, but humor was more important here.

Working on a GerAus elsewhere. Spanning several decades where neither gets any because author!anon can't write smut and prefers plot anyway.

Great read, writer-anon! Gilbird getting babied by Austria was too cute for words! And the ending was great! Lol @ the peeps.

Gilbird constantly swearing makes me SO. FREAKING. HAPPY.
