(Anonymous) 2010-11-14 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)It really is a dream - that explains why all the items are there when they show up.
There are actually two Germanys here. One is Ludwig, the Federal Republic, who doesn't remember much before 1949. The other is Germany (who I called Michael) who does remember much more from all time periods but is mainly suppressed by Ludwig.
The mosaic is me trying to piece together Germany's memories. Ludwig doesn't like that because there are memories that call his justification for existing into question. However, he can't do much to stop it, exactly like he can't do much about stopping the storm. The storm is what happens when more people than just me start asking questions. One day the Federal Republic won't be able to ignore that storm anymore and that is where it gets painful for him. Once Germany's memories are completed Ludwig won't be able to suppress Germany anymore. I want that to happen, so it's important for me to make Ludwig remember.
But until that happens I can use what my father(land) gave me to make my life more enjoyable. It's a really bad idea to fly a kite just before a storm but Germany crashed so many times and came back that I'm not worried about bad ideas anymore.
In the end Ludwig can't follow because he is literally built on sand. Germany could follow but is again surpressed by Ludwig.
I was going to say something like "My dad always came after me." in the end but stopped when I realized the above.
The violets and the 'It was a dream' line are from a Heine poem which I got from a yellow little book by the Reclam publishing house. Both poem and publishing house are important parts to Germany.
I hope that clears it up.
