New Bonds (2b/?)
(Anonymous) 2010-11-14 03:34 am (UTC)(link)Okay, that wasn’t so hard. Now he just had to check out his book without, as Eduard had convinced him would happen, dying a painful death.
Not even five minutes after he had entered the library, Matthew descended the stairs, book in hand. Nobody else was in the checkout line, so Matthew quickly walked over and set his book down on the counter, quickly pulling his student ID out and placing it on top. The librarian still had the same vaguely uninterested look on his face, and he was able to scan both the ID and the book without even looking down to make sure he scanned the right part. The only time he had to look at what he was doing was when he typed a few words into the computer. Then he placed a receipt under the top cover and the ID was returned to its place on top of the book, and with one gentle push it slid across the counter into Matthew’s waiting hands.
All in all, the transaction had taken maybe half-a-minute at most. It was 30 of the most nerve-wracking seconds in Matthew’s life, though, and he was all too happy to hurry out of the library before the librarian said anything to him. He nearly dropped his ID as he tucked the book under his arm, but he quickly recovered and shoved the ID into his pocket, not even bothering to pull out his wallet and return it to the space right in front of his State ID.
Once outside, Matthew let out a breath he hadn’t even realized that he had been holding in. It had been tense, but he had survived. “Well that wasn’t so bad,” He said to himself, his normal, sunny disposition returning, “I don’t even know how those rumors were started, he wasn’t scary at all.”

It was a well-known fact that roommates needed to share interests in order to have a good relationship. They didn’t have to like everything that their roommate did, but at least one shared interest was enough to give them something to talk about. And really, it was an effective way to pass time. Hours flew by if you had someone to discuss Hamlet from a Marxist point of view with.
Though it wasn’t nearly that nerdy for Alfred and Yong Soo. Hell, neither of them had even read Hamlet before. No, what they bonded over was video games.
It had started out innocently enough. Alfred had wanted to watch a movie, and Yong Soo volunteered his Xbox for the task. From there they got talking about the different video game systems and genres, and eventually they discovered that they had a mutual liking for Halo. Both boys were surprised to find someone as skilled as they were at the game, so their games often turned into brawls that would make a casual gamer weep in shame.
