It wasn't the perfect place for a realisation.

In fact it was one of the most mundane places for one, but France had lived long enough to know that life didn't happen as America so often liked to paint it in those movies of his. So it was standing in the middle of the market place, not gazing wistfully over a beautiful view somewhere but browsing over a stall of fruit and with a large paper bag in his arms that he suddenly frowned.

While it was true that the world dimmed a little because he stopped paying attention, nothing else spectacular happened. When he remembered what he was supposed to be doing a few minutes later he did realise that he'd been staring intently at the fruit for the majority of that time, and that the woman behind it was looked at him expectantly.

It wasn't even that he had been thinking particularly hard on the suject. He spent enough of his time trying to bed the other nations that rejection was a common enough occurance for it to be laughable, not hurtful. Even the country of love took a little time to realise his feelings if they hadn't outright smacked him in the face, which hadn't happened for centuries. Fistfights with England not withstanding he couldn't remember the last time he had taken one look at someone and thought 'choose me' without a second thought.

Though it was, perhaps, a little embarassing that it had taken him this long to figure out why he was so irritated (nearly to the point of anger) when he was constantly refused by one country in particular. But for Heaven's sake!

Going from bemused to irritated in one fluid moment, France scowled at the woman staring at him, and asked for six tomatoes.

I hope this doesn't suck too much. Spain/France is a guilty pleasure of mine... that's the only reason for the pairing. Everyone else will show up soon, and it'll start looking more like the prompt asked I promise orz;

anyways, this is off to a great start. i hate how far between fics of this pairing come, so seeing this on the fills list i got excited for something new. so far you're extremely far from disappointing. for such a short beginning, you've really left me tethered < 3
