Any - interacting with a human foreigner

(Anonymous) 2010-11-02 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Any nation interacting with a citizen of a different nation. Maybe a tourist visiting Russia, meeting Russia, and talking to him about sunflowers, or a student abroad in the UK telling England that they like everything about the country but the food and making him sad. Whatever you want, anon. Go nuts.

Second so hard!

And I would give many cookies to anybody doing one (or more) for Germany.

Thirded. I like requests like these.

Straniero [1/3]

Straniero

A/N: Thought I’d do this with N. Italy. I really do love him so. Human names are used, Anon, is that okay?

-------------------

He met the girl purely by chance. See, there was the nicest little restaurant in one of the side streets of Florence, and he just wanted some good pasta – usually, Feliciano cooked it himself, but today he was a little lazy (or, perhaps lazier than usual) and figured it wouldn’t be so bad to treat himself. So, he sat at a little round table in the corner, swinging his legs under the table and looking at his menu, when he heard the tinkling of bells and loud chatter in English.

A group had just walked in – obvious foreigners, by how they talked and walked and gawked at everything. Feliciano didn’t mind such people. After all, they were here to see his home, weren’t they?

“Ugh, see, I told you this city was terrible.”

…Okay, that hadn’t been nice. Feliciano tried not to flinch too noticeably. The person who had said that, a shorter woman, brushed her brown hair to the side as she and the group sat down by a large table by the window.

“I mean, it’s so crowded-”

“Aw, you’re just complaining, Liz! It’s nice!” One of the group members cut her statement to the quick, and Feliciano was thankful for it.

“Yeah, don’t be a spoilsport! Enjoy yourself.” The woman named Liz just shrugged, nudging the girl who sat next to her with her elbow. “You agree with me, right, cuz?”

“Hm?” The girl turned to look at Liz, and subsequently, gave Feliciano a good look at her face. She was pale, with hair just as dark as her cousin’s, and bespectacled blue eyes. “What? Um, I wasn’t paying attention, sorry…”

Liz just laughed and ruffled the girl’s hair. “Ah, you’ve been spacing out again, Lainey? What book from class are you thinking about now, huh?” Without missing a beat, Lainey replied:

The Inferno. The writer was from here, you know.”

Feliciano had been ready to tune the group out and leave them to their meal when he heard that title. He immediately focused. If there was one thing he secretly loved, it was foreigners talking about his peoples’ accomplishments.

“It’s really cool to see where he grew up and stuff.” Laniey looked out the window, watching as people trickled by the restaurant. “I mean, Dante’s work was a big deal in the Middle Ages. It’s kinda cool to see the place where he drew so much inspiration from.” Her brow furrowed slightly, and for a moment, Feliciano wondered if the girl had any German blood in her; that expression reminded him so much of Ludwig when there was a problem he couldn’t solve. “I’m just wondering if there’s any crazy stuff with threes and nines somewhere in the city. He was freaking obsessed with threes and nines.”

“Because of Beatrice, of course!”

Lainey turned to look at Feliciano, who blinked. Had he really blurted that out? And in English, too? Oh, dear…the girl was even looking at him funny, like he might bite if she got too close, and yet she seemed to want to…

“V-ve,” He squeaked, nervous himself, “I-I mean, he met Signorina Beatrice when he was nine, si? And so was she, and then he saw her again after nine years at what was once the ninth hour of the day, which I think was noon back then, or maybe it was three in the afternoon…aaah, it’s been a while, I don’t quite remember…” For Dante had told little Feliciano, clad in white, what his nines and threes meant, but he couldn’t remember what else the man had said. The Lainey girl’s lip twitched.

“Y-yeah…my professor said that, too,” she said, smiling. By now the rest of the group was looking at him oddly. One of the older women leaned over to her cousin Liz, and Feliciano could just make out what she whispered:

“My, the dear hasn’t spoken to a local this whole trip, she’s been so nervous…”

And Feliciano let himself smile at that. Lainey smiled, too.

“Hey, you wanna join us?” Liz offered, gesturing to her cousin, “This one needs more boys her age to talk to.” While Lainey cried out in embarrassment, Feliciano gladly took her up on the offer. After all, anyone who knew a little of his history must have been interesting.

OMAKE:

“Oh, ah, Mr. Vargas-”

“Ve, Feliciano is fine, I keep telling you! Lainey’s real polite for an American, huh…”

“R-right, F-Feliciano…um…” Lainey held out her menu. “I can’t really understand what’s what on here…could you help me?”

“Si, si!” He took the menu in his hands, glanced at it, and then placed it on the table. “Ve, I know just what to get!” He pointed to one of the small blocks of text. “This is five different types of pasta with five different types of sauce! It’s a whole lot, so we can share it!” He looked up at Lainey, curious. “Ah, you do like pasta right?” She laughed.

“Yeah, I love pasta, it’s awesome!”

This brought the biggest grin to Feliciano’s face, and he gave Lainey a tight hug. Although she was blushing and sputtering in surprise, he was quite sure that he had made a brand new pasta friend.

A/N: Just a couple little notes for you guys:

Straniero – Italian word meaning ‘foreigner’

The Inferno - Part One of The Divine Comedy written by Florentine Dante Alighieri. He had a thing for a lady named Beatrice and used various forms of threes and nines excessively in his work. We just got done with the book in my Medieval Literature class, I couldn’t resist.

The pasta dish – There’s apparently some restaurant in Florence where you can order five different pastas with five different sauces. This is just some made-up restaurant setting, but let’s pretend they have it there, too.

lol, this other Italianon thought it was about Feli and saw no problems with the title - he's a foreigner too, to the girls...

Also it's not rare to find a place that offers you assaggi ("tastes") of pasta dishes anywhere in Italy, so it wasn't a stretch at all<3

Awww, this fill is so, so cute!
