Spain laughed through the phone. “So I’m assuming you ran away, and that’s why you’re in the basement?”
“Ok, first of all, I made them run away, not the other way around. Second of all, I could hear them! I almost—“ Romano blinked as he realized this conversation had taken a direction not at all related to sex. “I—what are you wearing again?”
“I never said. But Romano, this isn’t really a good time—“
“Wait!” Romano sat up in alarm. “Don’t go! We haven’t even started yet!”
“Started? Started what?”
“Started… I’m wearing a green shirt! What do you want me to do with it?” Despairing at Spain’s confused silence, Romano pressed on. “You want me to take it off, right?” After some complicated shuffling, Romano managed to yank off his shirt and bring the phone back to his ear. “I threw it on the floor.”
“Why—“
“It’s cold down here, though.” Romano stared at his chest as he added, “My nipples are kind of hard.”
“Romano—“
Romano lifted a hand and pinched one. “I’m touching one now. But I can touch other places, too. J-just tell me where, ok?” Romano blushed as he let his hand fall down to play with the button on his jeans again. “I can take off my pants, if you want. And you should take off your clothes, too. Pretend I’m doing it, and then pretend I start k-kissing places.” This was so embarrassing. Romano sunk down into the couch, and his voice became quiet as he continued, “I’ll get on top of you, ok? And I’ll rub—I’ll touch a lot of places. I’ll touch… places all over. What will you do to me?” The last part was almost whispered, and Romano could only be glad that Spain couldn’t see how red in the face he was.
Spain remained silent for so long, Romano thought the call had dropped. Then he said in a very strained voice, “Romano, I’m in a meeting with my boss right now.”
…fuck.
If it were possible to die of embarrassment, Romano was sure a half-naked corpse would be awaiting Veneziano the next time he ventured into the basement. He could only choke out an Oh before hanging up on Spain and letting his phone fall to the floor. Damn it, damn it, damn it. Burying his head in his arms, Romano groaned and tried to think of a way to kill himself quickly and painlessly. A few seconds later his phone rang and what the fuck, did Spain change his ringtone again? Romano picked up his phone and hit the button to answer Spain’s call, then pressed it to his ear.
“Romano, stop freaking out.”
“I’m not freaking out,” Romano muttered in response. Maybe if he threw his phone against the wall it would shatter, and he could take one of the sharper pieces and stab himself with it.
Spain’s voice took on that gentle, reassuring tone that gently reassured whether Romano wanted it to or not. “Listen Roma, I’m sorry about the timing. Don’t be embarrassed, ok? We’ll talk later.”
Romano sighed. Somehow he doubted they would be having phone sex. If not for Spain’s resolution to be an unimpassioned jerk, then for Romano’s new resolution to never ever, ever attempt it again. “Yeah, alright,” he said. “Later.” He hung up the phone and then glared at the basement ceiling.
Veneziano and Germany had better be finished up there. If Romano couldn’t have sex, then he’d make sure that nobody else could either.
