For a brief moment Russia clung to the child in his arms his eyes intense on America's face like he was trying to discern what he was thinking. America kept his face soft and full of a promise that he would not kick Russia out of Sasha's life if he was not given a reason too. Russia must have found the answer he was searching for because he nodded his head.
"Da," he answered moving over towards the bed where he lay Sasha back down and pulled up the covers.
Sasha whimpered softly and clutched and Russia's shirt. America averted his eyes as Russia leaned forward and because to converse softly with the child. Unable to stand the thought of baring witness to Sasha choosing Russia over him he hurried from the room and back down the stairs and into the living room. He stared blankly out the window for a moment and then headed over to the baby monitors. The murmurs going on upstairs were too soft and fast for him to pick up completely though and with a sigh he turned his attention to the jacket that Russia had tossed haphazardly across the couch before he'd come upstairs. He picked it up and before he realized what he was doing he brought it to his face breathing in the smell of Russia's cologne and the soft scene of snow and ice that always seemed to cling to him even on the warmest days.
He quickly tossed the jacket back onto the couch when the exact nature of what he was doing caught up with him. Just in time too as footsteps sounded on the stairs. He waited tensely until Russia entered the room, refusing to turn to look at the other nation until he spoke. He did not have to wait long.
"You said you had some ideas for how we move forward from this point?" Russia asked.
"Yeah," America breathed nodding his head and finally turning towards Russia. The other nation was regarding him once again with an unreadable expression thought it didn't seem to hold any hostility. "My boss...my boss would like to make Alaska a state, he's started to put the wheels in motion for it but...it's not far enough a long that it couldn't be stopped..." he said in a rush as Russia's face darkened for a moment before clearing at that statement. "But...it would be good for him. It will give him representation and...protection..."
"Protection from me snatching him away from you," Russia said pointedly as always not one to beat around the bush if he could help it.
"You did threaten to take him away from here even before you thought he really existed..." America pointed out evenly not willing to back down or give up on this easily if he could help it. "So...yeah...I'd like some guarantees that you won't be able to do that. He appeared here, he says he belongs here, so this is where he should stay."
"How do I know you will not use his Statehood as a way to keep him from me if things between our countries...between us...grow bad in the future..." Russia asked in a reasonable tone.
America let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. It seemed that Russia really was interested in find some sort of logical compromise for this, something that would be best for Sasha. "I will be willing to sign a formal binding agreement that will give you...parental rights...that we'll work out together that will remain for as long as one or the other of us is around or until he reaches the age where he can fully make his own decisions however long that might take him. It can be overseen by a neutral party...Switzerland has already agreed but if you'd rather someone else..." he said tentatively.
There was a long pause and for that moment America thought Russia wouldn't agree to any of this. If they could not even agree on something as simple as who would oversee the proceedings he didn't think they'd be able to come to an agreement on any of the harder more difficult decisions. "Switzerland would be fine." Russia finally said.
America let out a breath of relief that Russia seemed to be planning on making it easy on the both of them. That thought didn't last for very long when Russia spoke again.
"I would like to take him home with me to Moscow...or St. Petersburg..." Russia said.
"But...you just said..." America said in confusion, fear and anger bubbling up to the surface again.
"Just for visits," Russia clarified though he didn't seem overly put out over the misleading nature of his statement. "I would like him with me to see my homeland..."
"No," America said firmly. There was one thing that America planned to be unmoving about and this was it. Sasha would not be setting one foot on Russia's soil at least not while Russia was under the grasp of communism.
"No?" Russia echoed with some confusions of his own.
"No," America repeated. "I will not allow him to go anywhere within the Soviet Union."
"You said you were willing to make compromises," Russia said coolly. "That you wanted him to know my heritage."
"I am and I do," America said with a sigh. "But I would have you teach it to him here. He cannot go where I can't follow..."
"You think that he will not come back," Russia said this time not bothering to mask the anger in his voice. "You think I would break my agreement?"
"It's not you I'm worried about, Russia," he said and he meant it. Even after all this time, even after everything that had happened between them there was still some small part of him that would trust Russia with his life and that part trusted Russia with Sasha's as well. "But you...have not always been so good at controlling your bosses..." he said meeting Russia's gaze unflinchingly. "Especially lately and I...I will not put him in their hands. They would not hesitate to use him against the United States if they could."
Russia stared at him for a long moment and America thought he would argue and that any arrangement that they might have made would be broken before it even started. He would have to go back to being ready for war. Russia reached for his jacket with a slight frown and America felt his heart sink even ask he stretched his spine up to it's full height ready to meet whatever Russia was planning to throw at him head on.
"I need time to think about this," Russia said and America felt a brief glimmer of hope even though he knew that by think Russia meant he needed to speak with his bosses about it.
"How long will you need?" he asked.
"Probably not long," Russia answered. "I will stay here for a few days."
"Stay here?" America asked in surprise.
"Da..." Russia answered, there was an edge of warning in his voice.. "I would like to get to know Alaska a bit better...unless that is not okay with you?"
"No...no, that's okay," America hurried to reassure him. "I was the one that wanted you to meet him. If you need to stay here for a few days that's...fine..." he left it unsaid that it would be strange and bordering on awkward. If they truly wanted to make this work then they were going to have to get used to being in the same place at the same time without wanting to kill each other again.
"Good," Russia said with a nod. "I am going to go for a walk...I need some fresh air as I think."
America eyed the weather outside the window doubtfully. "It's freezing out there," he pointed out he was rewarded by a mostly blank stare and a slightly quirking lip. He huffed and couldn't stop the answering grin that popped out on his face. "Yeah, yeah not for you..."
"Not for me, da," Russia agreed as he pulled on his jacket. "I will be back in a few hours."
"I'll get the third bedroom ready for you, Sasha's in your old room..." he frowned at the small burst of memories that rose up through the murky parts of his brain and sighed as he smacked them back down. "It's a bit smaller..."
"That will be fine," Russia answered.
They stared uncomfortably at each other for a moment. Or at least America was uncomfortable it was impossible to judge what Russia was feeling. Finally Russia nodded his head and turned and walked towards the door. After he'd left America walked over to the couch and sat down letting out a shaky breath and running his hand through his hair.
So far, so good.
It was still too soon to say for sure which way things would go but at least Russia seemed willing to hear him out. That was probably as good as he was going to get it until the forms of whatever agreement they came up with was signed. He didn't really like that, he'd much rather have everything figured out quickly but he knew that wasn't the way that Russia worked. He was just going to have to learn some patience. He thought he could do it, for Sasha's sake.
He sank back against the cushions and stifled a yawn. He knew he needed to go upstairs and dig some fresh sheets out for Russia's bed but for the moment he couldn't get his legs to move. He hadn't slept well the last few weeks, even though Sasha had finally settled enough that he was sleeping through the night now, and the night before he hadn't slept at all too busy tossing and turning thing off all the horrible things that might happen when Russia arrived. Now he felt sleep tug at him and though he knew he shouldn't he let his eyes drift close. He'd just rest his eyes for a few minutes and be up and moving by the time Russia got back.
He was sound asleep a few seconds later.

I squealed like an idiot when I saw this. I can't properly express how excited I am at this update!!! This is by far my favourite mpreg fic ever and my favourite Alaska fic ever too. Sasha is so adorable ♥
Oh, and your Russia is fascinating and dead sexy, and I like his unreadableness and his fluffiness with his son and his, um, bordering on violent posessive nature towards America and Alaska. Your America is totally awesome, more serious and responsible than he usually is, but also his goofy, jovial self, and he was also drop dead gorgeous declaring Word War III on Russia should he try to take Sasha. I love them both to pieces, and the way you portray their relationship, even amidst the Cold War, is strangely romantic and hopeful. They so obviously want the other...! When America smelled Russia's jacket I squeed, when Russia metioned England with jealousy I giggles, and when Russia cooed at little Sasha in Russian I 'awww'd. OMG, this fic makes me do all sorts of thingsXD My favourite part was when America's giving his reasons for not wanting Sasha to visit the Soviet Union. It's interesting that Russia didn't argue or deny his arguments...so he knows what kind of men his bosses are...and America is so deliciously sweet, thinking he trusts Russia with Alaska's life, which is such a big deal in this current situation...
I think I might die from the cuteness if we get a fluffy sweet scene of the aftermath of this chapter, when Russia comes back from his walk. And will we see Alaska's first visit to the not-Soviet-anymore Russia? I'm sure I'll die from the cuteness with the present-day resolution *sighs dreamily* I hope we get to see more glimpses of scary posessive/protective Russia...it's so hot. Though I wouldn't mind one such reaction for America ;)
THIS FIC IS SO AWESOME! do you intend to de-anon when you finish?
Awwww....thank you! (Are you the Spanish!Anon that has left me lovely comments in the past?) That's a high compliment indeed even if it's not really a true m-preg fic.
I'm glad Russia is coming off exactly as I want him to. I wanted the moment he first sees America and Sasha together to be a big time MINE moment. Of course America doesn't realize that that MINE includes him but we know the truth... ;-) I'm glad all those little moments I weaved together also worked the way I wanted them to. Just little aww moments
Oh Russia is well aware of what sort of bosses he has and what they would do if given the chance.
I honestly wasn't intending to include a scene like that. In the modern day portion of the story it's mentioned that they still haven't gotten to that point yet where America is ready to allow it. But perhaps if the muses strike right it could happen... ;-)
Thanks again! :-)
I do plan on de-anoning when I'm done finishing it (if I ever do)...though I'm not really planning on posting it at any of the coms. But if you have comment notifs I can do a brief de-anon now since it might be several more months before the fic is completed at the rate I'm currently going at with it...
Yes, it is meXD (am I so distinctive, even when I write reviews? lol)
I think it's the fact that there's no mpreg, yet the child is theirs, which makes this an awesome mpreg fic. But when I wrote that complicment I was thinking about the other aspects of mpreg fic...mainly parenting, raising the baby, and its relations with both parents. All of which are amazing in this fic
I wanted the moment he first sees America and Sasha together to be a big time MINE moment.
Oh, I swooned again; you made me realize I have a huge posessive!Russia fetishXD I think America may be realising he's in the MINE bag, with the whole tracking cell system thing going on in the presentXD (can't wait for more, though!)
Poor Russia. soviet!Russia fascinates me, because he's usually inherently good, but handles a very unstable and crazy balance of genuinely believing in soviet ideals and cynically knowing what kind of men his bosses are. This is my favourite characterization of Russia in fic, so CONGRATULATIONS, you have him spot on ;)
*sings to the muses* Or maybe an epilogue? I guess it depends on how the main story ends in the present, but an epilogue of "let's visit Papa Russia together, Sasha" would melt my heart like chocolate fudge caramel syrup ^^ (and besides, "America visiting Russia" is always hilariousXD)
If you don't mind, I'd love to a)see who you are for stalking purposes and b)friend you ^^ So if you de-anon...be prepared to be friended and stalkedXD
Why don't you wanna post it? The AmericaxRussia comm would probably fap to this every day of the week. I used to think everybody in the fandom was here in the kinkmeme, but recently, I've noticed many people are scared at its size and constant updates and/or their shyness or embarassment or whatever makes them stay away. And this story is awesome, it'd be a shame if somebody was left out of its Prussianess... but it's yours, feel no pressure. This is just encouragement ;)
Ah I get ya. Yeah I suppose in that way it does fall more under then mpreg category then the regular states-are-just-his-siblings categories. Still not sure what the powers-that-be were up to with Alaska but that's okay...mystery can be good I guess. My muses love to keep me in the dark on things apparently.
LOL Modern-day America is quickly being clued into the whole "Mine" aspect of the deal...but I'm not sure he fully comprehends what that means yet. Russia has been hanging back because he knows America doesn't get it but now that America does well... *cough*
Maybe...at this point I just really want to get this done before the other multi-parters I have take over completely. So if I do do an after-story type of fic it probably won't be for a little while. I do have a little side-story I want to use when I de-anon it but that takes place back before the first going-to-England's home flashback on the boat over there. I wouldn't rule out other stories in this universe though. I love working on series/within the same universe it's comfortable and I get bored with coming up with back stories all the time.
I'm going to be lazy and point you in the direction of the Discussion Post on page 21 the person posting about the Austria Index (amygirl) that's me. Just comment on one of the posts when you friend me so I know for sure who you are so I can add you to my Hetalia filter... ;-) Though to be honest I don't post a ton of Hetlia-related stuff though it is getting to be a more regular occurrence.
I don't know M-Preg fics don't seem to be very popular on the main com or Rus/Am and I think it's probably to heavily focused on Rus/Am to be welcomed at the America and his States com. It kind of falls in the middle-ground. I'll think about it though. :-)
The Powers-That-Be are obviously AmeRu shippersXD (and they also think that a child between them would be insanely cute ^^)
Ah, but that sounds promising. Can't wait till America starts to realize the full implications and/or Russia starts being more obvious about what it implies
Any and all stories set in this verse will be welcome here. I ADORE it. And your England is very awesome, so I'm also looking forward to that side story you say ;)
Gonna look for you now ^^ (should I comment on the Discussion page or somewhere in your journal, or here?)
mpreg fics aren't common in the Russia/America comm? But Alaska is the most popular state-tan! where are they famous, if not there? And yes, it may focus a lot on AmeRu, but it's also very thorough and in-depth about the child and what it implies, and at the beginning he absolutely rules the fic, so... Just encouragement ;)
Just comment on one of the entries on my personal journal then I can know who you are when I add you.
Yeah mpreg fics and state-tans in general don't seem very popular on the main coms as far as I've been able to see...but I'm pretty far behind so...maybe I'm wrong.
I apparently fail at commenting atm. X____X I'll write something more thoughtful next time. I hope.
ANYWAY. I love this fill, I can't wait for more, and omg this is just so much better than I expected... I don't usually read state-tan fics but I was bored and I had seen the updates for this around a lot and decided to give it a chance and damn I loved it.

Ah, but that sounds promising. Can't wait till America starts to realize the full implications and/or Russia starts being more obvious about what it implies
Any and all stories set in this verse will be welcome here. I ADORE it. And your England is very awesome, so I'm also looking forward to that side story you say ;)
Gonna look for you now ^^
(should I comment on the Discussion page or somewhere in your journal, or here?)
mpreg fics aren't common in the Russia/America comm? But Alaska is the most popular state-tan! where are they famous, if not there? And yes, it may focus a lot on AmeRu, but it's also very thorough and in-depth about the child and what it implies, and at the beginning he absolutely rules the fic, so...
Just encouragement ;)

(Anonymous) 2010-04-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah mpreg fics and state-tans in general don't seem very popular on the main coms as far as I've been able to see...but I'm pretty far behind so...maybe I'm wrong.

I don't usually read state-tan fics but I was bored and I had seen the updates for this around a lot and decided to give it a chance and damn I loved it.
