Part 2 Chapter 1/4

(Anonymous) 2009-12-16 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Iceland looks displeased when they enter the room.

“What?” Norway asks.

“It's nothing.” Iceland starts but since Norway continued to look at him, expecting an answer, Iceland continued with a very dissatisfied tone. “I'm not used to these kinds of buildings. They're nothing like at my place or your place. Our steps echo no matter were we are going and this big house doesn't feel the least like home. ”

Norway didn't respond but instead took Icelands hand. The room were the both of them were to be living was a floor beneath were his king and queen lived but the large windows still gave quite the view over London.
There was a fireplace and two large beds. The room felt oddly large for Norways taste as well, actually the entire house had felt ridiculously large and if England hadn't been in such a hurry Norway would have asked for a guided tour since finding your way around the building might prove difficult. All in all, he could agree with Iceland that this felt far from home, his small cottage and the lakes and the forest.

“Iceland let's go to bed and rest. We'll think more about this tomorrow when we've slept.”
Iceland sighed.

“If you say so Norway.”

When they both had gone to bed Norway could hear voices from the upper floor. He recognized the voice of his king so he could guess he must have been talking to Englands boss, whose name had slipped his mind at the moment. They were talking loudly but they didn't seem to be arguing.

His queen, who had been a princess from Wales before marring his king, seemed really thankful that the British had come to their assistance, and his king talked about how they would never give up hope and that the battle had only started.
Norway glanced at his side and saw Iceland lying just beside him, curled up on the side.

Iceland wanted to go home, and he needed to be with his people. So for him this was only a temporary and highly uncomfortable solution.

Norway looked up at the roof again. Iceland couldn't stay here, he still had a chance to stay out of this war, at least a bit. He should talk with England the moment he got back if there was a way that Iceland could be protected without getting involved. He checked that Iceland was sleeping one last time and then went out of bed and got dressed.

Part 2 Chapter 2/4

When he left the room and went down the stairs he could hear two voices, one that he recognized as England and the other?

“You like totally need to stop drinking or you're going to like, end up getting a blackout of tonight.”

It must have been Poland. Norway hadn't ever met Poland in person but heard enough about the nation from Denmark to recognize that speech pattern. The two nations were sitting at the bottom floor beneath the stairs by the table.
By judging from the whiskey bottle and Englands distant expression Norway assumed that helping France hadn't gone so well. Poland looked up and saw Norway standing by the stairs and the poles face unexpectedly lit up.

“You must be Norway! Come down here and sit down!” Poland patted a free chair beside the small table. Norway didn't respond but walked over to them and sat down. He eyed Englands expression, whom the Briton seemed to be hiding by looking in a different direction.

“But like I said we're not like totally outmatched by Germany. I'm here and Norway's here and didn't you sort of use to be an empire? Well back then when me and Liet were a commonwealth together you should have seen we were like awesome, if only Liet was here then Germany would like to for the hills in no time.” Poland smiled a confident smile.

“Poland.” Englands voice was very strained and seemed to be on the brink of bursting out in anger.

“Shut the fuck up and get out of this room!” England stood up in a quick motion and grabbed the bottle on the table. His face was red and his heavy breathing was more evidence then Norway needed to tell how drunk he was. For a moment Norway wondered if he should step in between but it proved unnecessary since Poland quickly got up from his chair.

“Geez if you wanted me to get my beauty sleep then you should have just said so.” With those words Poland left for his room.

Norway shook his head. Those two were going to have a hard time to cooperate judging from how differently the handled problems and failures.
Poland joked them away and England got angry and frustrated; it was a combination made for disaster. Well better unsuitable allies then no allies at all.

England sank down in his chair and placed the bottle on the floor. Norway decided that this wasn't a good time to ask any questions so he sat in silence waiting for England to start the conversation, if there was going to be one.

“Why are you up to late?” England asked with an exhausted tone.

“I wanted to see if you were home, and I wanted to talk about Iceland...But that can wait until tomorrow.” Norway said and England nodded as a response and spoke up again.

“Poland is in the same situation as you. He was also attacked by Germany and fled here.” After a moment of silence and England noticed that Norway wasn't going to comment on that he said.

“France........decided to stay with his people until the very end.”

Norway saw that his hands were clenching the glass he held so far that his fists turned white. His entire frame seemed to be shaking and Norway couldn't tell if the area around his eyes were red because he was drunk or if it was because he was about to start crying any moment now.

“It's just....I didn't think France, out of all people France....I didn't think he'd fall so...easily. Dammit!”

England looked away and Norway took that as a sign that he should leave his drunk cousin alone so he stood up and started walking back to his room.
When he was just outside the door he heard England from downstairs.

“We'll talk about Iceland tomorrow. I promise.”

Norway was satisfied with that answer and returned to his bed and fell asleep next to his brother.

Part 2 Chapter 3/4

(Anonymous) 2009-12-16 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The next day when Norway woke up Iceland was already awake and was looking out the window.

“Good morning Norway.” He said shortly without looking at him. For some reason Norway felt a pang of guilt come over him.
Iceland would be leaving this place soon, one way or another. But Norway wasn't going to come with him. No matter how much he wanted to look after his younger brother their paths would go different ways through this war.

“Good morning Iceland.” He got up from bed and walked over to his brother. “This angle of London isn't pretty at all.” Norway stated and to his surprise he heard a laugh slip out between Icelands lips.

“Let's go down and have breakfast Norway.” Iceland took his hand and started leading him out of their room and downstairs to what looked like a fancy dining hall. Lot's of food had been placed out on the table and both of the nations saw Poland sitting at one of the chairs by the long table and poking with his fork at the food.
Norway could see that he had a rather disgusted face expression and seemed to examine the food as if it was some sort of foreign animal.

“Good morning Poland.” Norway said in his usual monotone tone which caused Poland to jump and then turned around with a sheepish grin on his face.

“Norway? Oh and this would be like Iceland? He's totally cute!?” Poland reached out his hand but Iceland looked at him suspiciously.

“Yes...” Iceland responded and looked a bit upsets. Norway guessed Iceland didn't want to be called cute, regardless how correct he considered Polands opinion on this matter was.
Poland himself grabbed Icelands hand and shook it happily.

“I'm Poland.”

“So I've guessed.....” Iceland said sounding very uncertain how to react to the situation.

“Hey why don't you sit down and....” Poland looked down at his plate of food that he had been poking around at “Just sit down and just have some tea, the tea is totally awesome.”
Norway sat down beside Poland and eyed the food on the table.
At first sight it looked fancy but on a closer inspection Norway realized that it was the silverware rather then the food. Actually it reminded him of those times Denmark had cooked when they were young and he'd failed at it.
He felt a lump in his throat and saw in the corner of his eye that Iceland looked far more upset on the surface than he did, but he seated himself and picked up his fork. Norway considered for a moment but decided to spare Iceland the pain and trust Polands advise.

“Iceland I don't feel like breakfast this morning, we'll eat later instead.” Then he turned to Poland. “When will England be back?”
Poland leaned back in his chair, it seemed he to had given up on eating this morning.

“He like went to make a phone call half an hour ago. He should be back soon.”
Poland investigated the breakfast table and reached out for a slice of grapefruit.

“This looks exotic. It can't be to bad.” He bit into the grapefruit like one would feast on a piece of orange but immediately spit it out on his plate. “This is like totally bitter, even his exotic fruits are horrible!”
Then all three of them noticed that England must have returned from making the phone call since he was standing by the door looking very disappointed at himself.

“You.....say so Poland...”

Part 2 Chapter 4/4

(Anonymous) 2009-12-16 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Later after the breakfast table had been cleaned of England told Norway and Iceland to meet up with him in the living room on the first floor and when they all had arrived Norway decided that they shouldn't waste any time and strike the heart of the matter first.

“We were going to talk about Iceland.”
When the younger nation heard his name being called he looked a bit shocked.

“What about me Norway?” He glanced at his older brother. But his older brother didn't look back at him,

“Iceland can't stay here it's to dangerous. If he's going to remain neutral neither of us can guard him since that will make him a target for Germany.”
England nodded in response and Norway turned to Iceland.

“What do you want to say on the matter Iceland?” Norway looked him with a concerned expression, and Iceland couldn't bear to say what he was thinking and instead turned away.

“I think....you're both correct on the matter concerning my safety...”

“Good. Because asked a neutral but powerful trading partner to look after you if you would agree.” England said with a pleased tone.

“I'll be fine with whatever.” Iceland mumbled to himself. “As long as it means I can leave this place and go home.”
Norway considered taking his hand as a sign of comfort but decided that it would be rude in a time like this. What Iceland needed right now wasn't comfort.

“Iceland.” When his brother looked over at him he saw that he was pouting and looking upset, but Norway could tell he was disappointed. Sad, yes. But mostly disappointed. “Promise me that you'll look after yourself and remain safe until the very end. When this battle is over, and I can see that you've remained unharmed, then it will be my victory regardless.”

Those were the last words Iceland heard from Norway before he left the house and returned home. It would be years before he heard him speak to him again.

“Eh so you're that Iceland? I almost started to think there was no one here and that the bastard England had been lying to me. Oh but don't you worry for a second! I'll protect you against any danger!”
