For goodness sakes, can I ever get through a fill without de-anoning myself?

-----------------------------------------------------------

England was getting used to America’s needs after a week or two. He ate enough for four in contrast to when he normally ate enough for two before he became pregnant and was starting to get over his morning sickness. One thing England was definitely thankful for, that’s for sure. The mood swings on the other hand were just getting worse. It didn’t help that they were being provoked by the New England colonies daily, and even New Jersey and New York got into the brawls lately. The fights just got more violent by the day, so much so that England had to step in more than once to prevent the colonies from attacking America.

And once the day was done, England always would find America sneaking into his bed and cuddling close to him, stomach still small enough to not press them too far apart. England had to admit to himself, despite how much he hated himself for thinking such a thing, that he had grown far too fond of the other’s warmth against him at night.

But the one morning England didn’t awake to the warm body twisted around his own he thought nothing of it. Perhaps America was just up early because of the anomaly of nature within him. England couldn’t bring himself to call it his child. It was just too alien of a concept for him. So he stretched out and yawned before he headed down to the kitchen.

Although before he got there, he noticed the bathroom door was open just a bit. He shrugged it off figuring America was just forgetful to close it all the way. That is, until he heard pained cries from within. They were faint, but his ears were well trained to a hurting America from when he was just a young child.

England slowly opened the door all the way to see America curled up in the fetal position on the ground, clutching his stomach. And there was so much blood on the floor it made England suddenly queasy. What happened?

“America?” He whispered, taking another step into the bathroom. America’s sobs increased as he clutched his stomach tighter.

“It h-hurts, England. S-so b-badly.” He cried, and that was when England realized the severity of this. It couldn’t be that, could it?

“What hurts, America?” He asked, trying to keep his eyes on America’s face and not the blood on the floor or the way he was holding his stomach, trying to ignore the way he was holding his stomach like that. America just hiccuped in his sobs again, looking up at England with tear-filled eyes.

“T-the D-Dominion is d-dead.”

“Pardon?” England looked at America in worry. If that was true… the boy might not be able to take it.

“I w-woke up early in a l-lot of pain and I c-came to the bathroom and I f-felt so much p-pressure and t-then there was b-blood and I k-knew she’s g-gone.” England stood there in silence. He didn’t know what to say. Because really, what was there to? He couldn’t bring himself to be upset about losing something he wanted nothing to do with. But seeing America like that was heartbreaking on it’s own.

“I d-don’t know w-what I did w-wrong! I g-guess the colonies are h-h-happy now.” America sobbed, curling tighter into a ball.

“America…” England bit his lip, hesitantly reaching out for America’s shoulder to console him.

“W-why d-did this h-happen?” Because it already defied all sense of logic and whatever cursed me decided to be benevolent?

“Sometimes we’re tested in ways harder than we can handle.” England said softly, trying to find some way to relax him. It wasn’t a boo-boo he could kiss this time. It wasn’t a lie he could tell to make going back to England seem less like abandonment. It was something much bigger than the two of them, something much harder to ‘make all better’.

“S-she was going to u-unify the c-colonies.” America sniffled. England softly stroked his hair and closed his eyes.

“It may be for the best, America.”

“H-how?!” America hiccuped once more. England hated to see or hear his precious America cry. He would need to make Edmund Andros regret ever coming up with such an idea.

“Because it was causing much unrest as is.” England leaned down and wiped America’s tears away.

“S-still, it’s n-not fair!” America clung to England’s shirt tightly, blue eyes bloodshot from his crying.

“Life isn’t fair, America.” England said, removing America’s hands. He looked down into those confused eyes of his ward and smiled softly before he turned and walked out of the bathroom and straight down to the docks, leaving America sobbing louder and hating the world on his own. Later on England would come to realize perhaps this was the wrong decision, being the first of many things that would drive the two of them apart, but at the time it was all he could really do.

The Dominion [Notes]

Notes: The Dominion of New England was put into play in 1686 by the king of England but enforced by Edmund Andros (Which is why I made him the mentioned one) to better control the New England colonies. If you don’t know this, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire each split from Massachusetts for religious reasons and so that explains the comments that are made. Because they all separated, being clumped into one DoNE was a concept the colonies hated. Because although they were still similar, they had a lot of differences. They had their own unions, but being forced into one pissed them off royally. And then in 1688 New York and New Jersey were added which caused even more problems to the list. Enough protest and civil unrest caused the dissolution of it in 1689.

So this is my take on why the Dominion was so unsuccessful. I went with the concept that the original 13 states were like America, were found in the world on their own, and weren’t America and England’s flesh children, but were their children in appearance, mannerisms, and in spirit. So the Dominion would be something entirely new to them. Why America thinks the DoNE is a girl? Who knows. Why he miscarried? Too much stress on him because of the civil unrest due to the DoNE’s opposers. Now, this is going from memory seeing as I don’t have my history textbook on hand so correct me if I’m wrong, kind anons.

Thank you for filling! It was quite informative! Curious...

Was England opposed to the idea of the Dominion that much? I thought America would have a more negative reaction towards it...being preg and all.

I hate to point out negative things about a fic but I felt that England was a bit OOC throughout the whole thing. If he can raise America from baby to teenager then I'm sure he can handle more (afterall, England LOVES taking colonies).
