I thought "Ojciec" meant father? It's disrespectful? (anon knows limited polish)

I just want to say that anon is doing a wonderful job and I love this fic :)

However, yes, "ojciec" is a bit unfortunate choice - in vocative case it sounds a bit rude (uncultured people speak like this), old fashioned and a bit like an old commercial we once had.
"Tato" would probably be better.
On the other hand almost none is going to notice the difference anyway :)

Hmm, how could it be explained...

Yeah, it means "father" but if he calls his dad like this, it's disrespectful. If he talks ABOUT his dad like this, it's ok I guess (though today many Polish kids say "ojciec" or "matka" in such disrespectful way that those words slowly lose their authority). While talking to his father he should use the form "ojcze". On the other hand "ojcze" seems a little archaic, but still acceptable if you wanted to show that Feliks has too formal relationship with his parents.

Using simply "tato" what means "dad" wouldn't cover it, but is more common.

Unfortunately when you're talking to someone you don't use the nominative (ojciec) but vocative (ojcze). Same with mum, it's more common to say "mamo" instead of "mama" when speaking with her. We slowly stop using vocative, but sometimes it's still important because it changes the meaning of what you want to express.

Uh, tl;dr, I'm so sorry, but I wanted to explain it to you. I know what you meant, though, and this chapter very moved me. Keep up the good work! <3

Polish sounds very complicated...and makes English sound very informal. I guess the Brits were relying on their nifty accents when they made the language!

This chapter was awesome! But if Feliks's family is this bad, I wonder how Toris's is...
