A suggestion from the Latin anon: Does Finnish have a word like "logbook"? That's a synonym of journal, and definitely manlier than diary. [I got this because the Latin word for journal, acta diurna, means something like "acts of the day" or "daily log".]
Gosh, we're just having ourselves a regular translation frenzy.
Re: Writer!Anon who only speaks English and the language D'AMOUR.
I think logbook is in Finnish lokikirja, but that's used only in ships and that kind of stuff. Diary is päiväkirja, literally "day book" and that's that teenager-kind-of-book. The matter is that we don't have any manlier word for diary, except maybe päivyri but that's just shorter version of päiväkirja. After that is just a calender, kalenteri.
Finnish why so random. D:

Well yeah I also thought to add even more lol and translate it like this:
Joten, sain lopulta päiväkirjani takaisin (kyllä, se on päiväkirja, ei päiväkirja, mitä tahansa Al sanookaan),
[So, I finally got my diary back (yes, it’s a diary not a diary, despite anything Al says),]
Ugh how funny I am.

Oh my god, I can TOTALLY imagine Canada differentiating between a diary and a diary with italics like Al would say it. TRANSLATE, I BEG YOU. Although I don't know Finnish and so wouldn't get it at all.
Re: Writer!Anon who only speaks English and the language D'AMOUR.
Örgh I think the biggest problem is my laziness and lack of patience plus this fic is gonna be so long. What have I been, like four months translating one same fic? And it's only eight pages and still not ready.
Hah I enjoyed a lot about that Latin translation too although all I can say in Latin is urea iacta es.
