Help I need Language!
Help! I Can't Language Good!
Do you need some help with another language?
Do you know how to read / write a language that isn't modern English, and want to help your fellow anon?
If so, this is the place for you.
Do you need some help with another language?
Do you know how to read / write a language that isn't modern English, and want to help your fellow anon?
If so, this is the place for you.
How this works:
- You don't need to be anon when you are offering language aid.
- When offering language aid, post a comment saying what language you will helping out with
- Put the language you want to help out in in the subject line
- Put the language you want to help out in in the subject line
- Only one language per thread please. "I can help out with French and Vietnamese," for example is wrong. French and Vietnamese should go into two separate comments.
- If you are requesting spelling, semantic or grammar aid in another language you must remain Anonymous.
- You may post a comment requesting language aid, providing you do it in anon mode and there isn't already a thread going on for that language.
- If there is already an aid thread for your desired language going, don't start a new comment asking for help unless you posted to that existing thread, and haven't received a response in 7 days
- Please stick to the topic at hand (language aide). This isn't the place for chit chat.
- If you have had experience with a particularly good online language resource that actually works than feel free to link it here as a reply to the first comment.
- In the subject line, state what language it is and try to describe what the resource does.
- Links to resources go in the comment area.
- No pimped out fonts or embedded videos are allowed. They will be deleted.
- Just a note. If you do have phrases in other languages in your fills, it's only polite to include a translation in English at the bottom of your fill somewhere.
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-07 07:11 am (UTC)(link)I'm doing a fill where it starts off with England and France fighting (domestic fight, nothing historical or completely violent).
Could you please translate the following lines?
1. Excuse me? I will speak in French if I please.
2. You fucking English bastard.
3. No! This is my language! My father and my father's father spoke French and I will do so if I please!
4. How dare you!
5. Oh sure, run away you pussy (or coward/pansy/wimp). You can dish it out but you can't hack it. (Ok, with this I know it's slang, so something along the lines of 'You can hand out the insults but you can't take any yourself', if that makes more sense?)
6. Our trip to Florida... (context: France discovers a cut up photograph)
7. Dear Matthew, do not cry.
8. You like it when I speak French (said sensually)
9. Your father and I are about to reaffirm my bed skills (or something else that is ambiguously 'sex skills')
Thank you absolutely so much in advance!
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-07 07:21 am (UTC)(link)so a few more lines?
1. LET ME BACK IN THE HOUSE!
2. If you don't open this door I'll break it!
3. Please Arthur... let me in...
-
Thanks again!
Re: French Beta
1. Laisse moi rentrer!
4) Comment oses-tu?!
I will do the remaining sentences later i have class now rofl orz
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-08 04:30 am (UTC)(link)I'm sort of confused with the anon that replied as well... um... what to do? Should I wait for the rest of your translations? Because some of theirs are different from yours?
Re: French Beta
so look, since our translations are different but mean the same thing, just took those I already translated and took in her reply those I haven't translated
I agree with the fact you must provide context about Matthew, if he's a child or not, especially. ( ´ ▽ ` )
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-10 06:18 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, Matthew's a young child, at least younger than 10 (no specific age).
Re: French Beta
well, "dear matthew" would translate as "cher matthew", which doesn't sound good, so you can say "Ne pleure pas, mon chéri" ("my darling", commonly used with children), or "Ne pleure pas, mon petit Matthew" (my little Matthew)
i hope it helps!
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-10 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)Also, if it's not too much trouble, could you help me with this?
It's for a different fill and it may seem odd, but Francis calls Arthur 'my cannonball' XD Can you please translate that?
Also, is there a French equivalent of 'ow'? Like for example, the Japanese one is 'itai'.
Thanks again!
Re: French Beta
"ow" is "aïe" or "ouille" (both can be used!)
as for cannonball, it litterally means "boulet de canon", but i'm not sure about how Francis is using it? (maybe the other frenchanons know...), is this supposed to be an endearing term rofl?
some people call other people "boulet" as "what a drag" here, so it doesn't sound endearing at all
(btw, when you're done with your fill, may I have a link, please? ;o;)
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-11 11:32 am (UTC)(link)The line is supposed to be “Your concern is so attractive, my cannonball." with 'my cannonball' in French. It doesn't have to be, but I thought the French spin would kind of be a nice closing to the fill. It doesn't have to be 'my' either, could be 'dear' or something else. If it really doesn't work, that's ok XD but I'll take your suggestion and ask another Frenchanon for help too
I'd be honoured to link you! lol, I've finished writing it, just need this last detail and I'll post it.
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-12 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)I didn't end up using French for cannonball, but thank you for the help!
Re: French Beta
Re: French Beta
(Anonymous) 2010-06-07 09:15 am (UTC)(link)2. Sale connard d'Anglais
3. Non !
6. Notre voyage en Floride...
7. Maybe a bit more context here ? Is Matthew a child? Because if he is, calling him "cher matthieu" sounds really strange... So assuming he is one, I'll say "Mon chéri, ne pleure pas." Yeah, I can't think of a casual way to work his name in this...
8. Tu aimes ça quand je parle français...
