It would be more cannon based just more psychological.

In a short summary of what I was thinking
Seeing as everyone Italy had been close to disappeared he is frightened of England because he once knew England as a boy his Grandpa Rome spoke of but as it goes on he sees the world change and develops anxiety and such to make him afraid.

Thats more of the approach I was going for.
