I was having some problems with livejournal yesterday.

I normally don't bother logging in to read the kink_meme, but yesterday I noticed something weird going on. In the first page of the Fill list, it said there were 4488 comments, but when I clicked the last page it turned to 4484 comments. I clicked any other page and it was still 4484, so there was no way to see those new 4 fills listed!

Then the freeze was lifted, so I went to check new requests. In the first page of Part 18, the number of comments was increasing and increasing, but when I clicked for example page 12, only 3 comments could be seen (even if there was already a page 13, so there was no way page 12 was not full of comments!).

So I tried to log in and then the problem was solved. I could see all the comments I was missing. But why does information dissapear as soon as I log out? That never happened to me before.

Did I make any sense? Am I the only one with this issue? XD Thanks in advance.

You're not alone. Last night when I noticed the Fill Count added to the fills list, I opened up the kink meme and was bummed to see the request freeze still in place. I refreshed for like an hour, wondering why the heck it wasn't being lifted. Then I logged in and whoa, the freeze was lifted a while ago, there were tons of new requests! O_o

The Daleks are taking over....or England's faeries have messed something up again...I couldn't get on this morning....

Yeah, LJ has been down almost ALL DAY for me. I've finally been able to access the meme in the last half hour, but even then there was a five minute span where I couldn't connect to any LJ page. It was giving me problems last night too, during the freeze lift I had the comments-disappearing thing too.

YANA, anon. I couldn't access LJ at all this afternoon. Anyone else had that problem?

Seconded. Numerous OPs have stated they won't read fills that don't match their original pairings, so go with what the OP wanted.

^ If you check this page when livejournal isn't working, it will (eventually) tell you if there are site-wide problems. Livejournal has been experiencing technical difficulties for over 12hours now, as stated at the above website.

If you have a plan, you probably shouldn't have asked for other opinions. You're writing the story, not the readers, so it's your choice which way it goes. The only opinions that matter in which way the story goes are yours and the OPs.

I can understand that, but OP didn't state pairings! It was one of those with more of a plot than characters they wanted to see it with...
I'll see what OP says, if anything. I'm inclined to stay with what I'm currently planning at the moments, thanks to the comments on this. ^ ^

You can also check http://downrightnow.com/ which is a usually pretty spot on when there are problems since it gets it's information both from people letting them know on site or from other sources like twitter.

Okay anons, I really need your help. I can't seem to get a feel for any requests to write for. :\ I like the idea, but when I try to start filling, I lose the mojo in a snap.

So, how do you anons keep your motivation, or basically the idea/feel, of the fill you're filling for? I don't want to end up with 10000+ WIPS D:

I don't really know... I've given some hints as to what pairing it might end up as, I wondered if anyone had caught on? But that probably wasn't it.

Chances are I was just being stupid again. And making myself unsure in the process.

I often read the request, then spend time when I can't be writing thinking about it, or I just write as much as possible. I also try not to post anything of what I've written until I'm fairly sure I'm going to finish it.

If I feel like I'm losing my way, I tend to look at the request again, to see that I'm not going way off the tracks.
And for me, I kind of force myself to write it - I don't look at many requests while I'm writing a long fic, unless I'm desperate for a break/really want to write something short.

Sadly though, I find that some fics/ideas don't work out for me - but at least they're WIPs on my computer as opposed to the kink meme. Then I don't feel so pressured.

tl;dr: have some ideas before you start, and don't get too distracted by other things you want to fill.

But if you're still finding it really hard, try looking at an index for a pairing/character you love, and start filling short fills, as it might increase your confidence?

If it's any comfort, I have only finished one multi-parted fill and have two WIPs, one dead the other currently alive, and I've been writing for some time. Long fills aren't always the name of the game. ^ ^

Oo...Okay, but then, isn't trying to force yourself making it harder to finish? it's like making someone finish a food they don't want to finish.

Maybe I should just write down what comes to mind and reorganize them? D:>

A thumb of rule I use is to not post my fill until it's complete. That way I don't feel pressured if I find a plot hole in my story and I just write until I'm satisfied. I'm always worried I'll screw something up, be it a plot hole or canon detail and if I don't post it until it's finished, I don't have to worry about that.

It's not for everyone though. Some people need those encouraging words from OP. =/

Ask OP if you see it interferes too much then follow what you wanted and tell OP why you couldn't.

Its YOUR story and OP DID NOT state it so he/she has no right to tell you to change it. Its been state multiple times that when a story is taken were it doesnt want to be taken it usually ends up crappy d: Do what you want because Im sure the other anons were just being helpful and didnt want to hinder you in any way!

Agreed, comments help. It keeps the topic in my mind and I have a greater chance of finishing it. Like that one fic where the Op commented on almost every single part. :)

Well, not force yourself, but not distract yourself. I can't explain it well, but if I'm interested, I'll not look at loads of other requests, so I'm only focused on one...

That's probably a good plan! ~~My strategies probably only work because I work from lines rather than a plot... Which doesn't make sense either. I'll shut up now, someone else will be able to help more.~~

I could never do this because I tend to write extra long fills, so if I wait until I'm finished we'd probably be already in part 31 and OP would be already prancing in any other fandom, her request long forgotten X_D

Exactly this. I don't post before I have a good chunk of the story finished, and it's soooo good for not feeling pressured. Although I do have one WIP up on the meme that is slowly (oh so slowly) trucking along, but I've planned the entire thing out so I don't feel worried about losing the jist of it. I love the story, and the anons who comment are fantastic, so I want to take my time making each chapter the best I can.

When I do find myself having trouble, I find prompts for the characters/pair and do some short fills. Sometimes I just need to get inside their heads again before I can continue. Tis is especially true when I haven't written in a while.

tl;dr - I have at least a dozen fills sitting on my computer but only one that is being uploaded to the meme atm. Either I'll get back to them, or I just wasn't meant to tell that story.

I have a similar problem anon...I tend to start a lot of WIPs and never finish them. Mostly because I know that most readers lose interest for WIPs, I never have the motivation to finish the fill. The thing that sucks is, for the pairing I write, there are so few requests that call for short fills that aren't PWPs, that I always get stuck writing WIPs.

But unlike the other anon, I always try to post what I have because at least it helps the meme move along. And as a requester, I prefer to find an unfinished fill than no fill at all.
