The Nordic Five consider themselves a family, if a somewhat dysfunctional one. But between the Sweden/Finland couple and the Denmark/Norway pair, Iceland sometimes feels like the odd one out - though he would never, ever tell them that. Still, he hates being the fifth wheel, and he begins to doubt his place and importance in the family. In fact, he's pretty sure they don't need him as much as he needs them, and he doesn't want to be a burden on them. So he leaves.
And he doesn't realize it, but his disappearance throws the entire Nordic family completely out of whack.
The angstier, the better. Should end with Iceland figuring out, in some way, that he is an important part of the Nordic family, and that the Nordics can't function quite right without him. His place in the family is not romantic or sexual, but that doesn't make him one whit less important or necessary than anyone else. (I actually prefer him unpaired, so please don't pair him with anyone outside the Nordics, either.)
