After World War One and during the twenties, Arthur realizes that he hasn't seen Matthew for a long time. Feeling guilty because of his dominion's loyalty to him in the Great War, he starts looking for Canada, and finds him alone in a sanatorium, suffering from shellshock and unlikely to get better any time soon.
Wracked with guilt, Arthur takes Matthew out of the sanatorium and brings him to his home, promising to stay with him until he gets better.
