“Wait, no, Liet, that’s not right at all,” Feliks said with a frown. Gilbert refused to hope. They might be talking about clothes. “See, you’re going at it wrong. Who’s the TA for this class? Because they’re clearly stupid. I mean, sure I suppose that’s a decent way to explain it, but unless you know exactly when to ignore it then you’re screwed. So, you haven’t been having problems because you don’t get. The explanation was just like totally the worst.”
Gilbert blinked. Thank you Awesome, he thought. Finally Feliks was talking sense and then Liet would get it and there wouldn’t be any study sessions turned cuddle sessions. Not that he was jealous. He was too awesome to be jealous.
“The TA is Nataliya.” That was Liet’s voice. Gilbert tried not to sigh. Nataliya was a stone cold, icy bitch. Except for that one time she got crossfaded at that party and in that fucked state of mind decided that she and Gilbert matched (what the fuck?!) and should hook up to have pale babies with purple eyes. Before Gilbert could explain that the blending theory of inheritance was mostly abandoned, she passed out and gummed his shoes.
“Oh,” Feliks said. “How’s that going?”
“She won’t date anyone who doesn’t get an A in that class,” Leit moaned. Gilbert perked up. Interesting. Both Liet and Toris going after the same girl. Must be awkward for Feliks, especially if the two found out about each other.
“Oh,” Feliks said, before pausing. “You do know that she probably can’t date students that she’s teaching, so even if she wanted to go out with you, she couldn’t.”
Excellent move, Gilbert thought. Very crafty, very diplomatic of him.
“You should date her!” Liet blurted out. Gilbert was most definitely paying attention now. “She likes smart people, who are good at math. She’d say yes to you, then I could at least be around her.”
“Liet, I—“
“No, really, it wouldn’t be that bad,” Liet reasoned. Nope, Gilbert thought. No that was a bad idea.
“Look Liet, you’d eventually get jealous,” Feliks said. He sounded worried. Gilbert agreed. It would be a bad idea. Very, very bad.
“No I wouldn’t,” he said. “It’d… she’d date you.”
“No, no, Liet—“
“I went out with you!”
Silence.
“I’m sorry, Feliks.”
“It’s alright.”
No, no clearly it wasn’t. Gilbert could just tell. Some friend Liet was if he couldn’t tell that Feliks was clearly not alright and highly likely to go on some giant guilt trip later. No, this was not alright.
