What you read/request/write

(Anonymous) 2011-02-12 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you usually request the same pairing/kinks you like to write? Do you read about the same pairing you tend to fill?

I'm asking this because I tend to request for my OTP, and the 90% of fills I read are about them.

But then, when I have to fill myself, I never do about them. I think it's because of a lack of confidence. I know perfectly my OTP and their possible dynamics, and also have my own headcanon for them, but everytime I find an awesome request for them, I just feel I wouldn't do them justice.

Thus, I feel more comfortable writing about pairings I don't usually read about. And that's weird XD What about you, anons? Any similar incoherences or are you die hard shippers in every field?

I have to say I'm the same way. I have this nagging worry that if I post a fill with my OTP, readers will be like, "Eww, I just realized how much I hate this pairing..." Thus they won't be writing awesome fills with them in the future. XD Irrational, but... yeah.

I always write and request for my favourite characters and my favourite pairings. But while I can only write porn, I request for different styles: historical, rom-com, crack, etc.

I do have that same worry as you do, but I still love writing for them and continue to do so. I dislike a majority of my fics, but someone out there likes them, and I'm eager to spread around my favorite pairing. ^^

I usually just read my OTP, but I do check out other fics if they have interesting premises, my OTP as a background pairing, or if they're for a pairing I like.

And. . . I've never requested anything before. XD

I focus really intensely on a single character. Everything I read, write or request will have that character in it. The stuff I request will be stuff that involves either a kink I don't think I could manage myself or a character I'm no good at writing. And then sometimes I request stuff I could write just because I want someone else to write it (things are never as enjoyable to read when you've written it yourself).

+1

Pretty much this. :)

The pairing I write the most is only my second or third favorite, and I almost never write my favorite pairing. My favorite pairing is a popular one and there are lots of great writers who do a great job of writing it - so there's a lot to live up to, and not really a need for good fics for that pairing, since there are plenty already.

By contrast, the pairing I write most is less popular, and the prevailing interpretation of it is one I don't care for, so I feel like I'm filling a niche that relatively few other writers have tackled. Since I'm going for an alternative interpretation, many fans of the pairing may not be interested in what I do, but the stuff I've done so far has gotten a good enough response that I know I'm not the only one who prefers to see that pairing in a different light.

I mostly request things I don't think I could write myself. I didn't used to, but twice I've, after requesting, come up with ideas for my own requests but I feel silly filling my own request. So now I save the ideas I might want for myself, and request the stuff I won't be able to do.

I'm a very OTP person, you might say. I usually request, write and read fills exclusively for my OTP.

That said, I do like many other pairings but only occasionally read fills for them because I'm not as comfortable writing for them as I am for my OTP. "Tsundere" characters in particular are not ones I can write well for, so even though USUK and Spamano are pairings I love, I stick to reading about them only.

Plus, these kind of pairings already have a lot of fills written by amazingly talented anons, whereas my OTP doesn't have as many writers for it (even though the ones that do are great), so I like to "spread the love" for my OTP that's somewhat less-loved compared to my other favorite pairings that are much more popular.

I request scenarios that I want to explore. Many of those senarios don't have anything to do with porn which is probably why no one's really paid any attention to them.

I tend to stick with Germany/Romano and France/Uk.
Though I would like to write some Uk/US or Us/Uk.

And some Spain/Romano.

I unfortunately tend to habitually keep pretty close to my OTP, so I read and write almost all FrUK. I've been trying to expand my repertoire of characters because I DO love all of them, so I've been forcing myself out of my comfort zone by bookmarking fills that have nothing to do with them--and I'm currently working on a Spamano fill. And dammit, it's HARD. D:

I request things I don't feel comfortable or don't feel I have the skill to write. Most of my requests are cracky because I fail at stupid humor.

I tend to actually request a lot of things involving America, though, interestingly enough. I've only written about him once and it was only a little angsty drabble thing not worth dredging up.

My OTP is very uncommon, and I request it, however it more often than not won't be filled.
However I was able to read two fics here and see an art regarding my OTP <3
The sad thing is I can't write my OTP ;A; They're two really hard characters to write (well without cliche) and I feel like if I were to write them it wouldn't be able to amount to the really great fics about them.
I agree, I feel most comfortable writing other pairings that I somewhat like, but don't love. Also I can never write pairings I don't like. I did it once for a friend (in another fandom) and it was the worse piece of crap I've ever written, and I didn't like it.

I will write any character or pairing, but I only read my OTPs and any kinks that really catch my interest. I actually don't like writing my OTP very much...I find that I'm never satisfied with what I write for it. I'm always worried about characterization and interaction...not to mention I'm not a heavily romance-type person. =(

Late commenter is late but wanted to give some input. Also, I hate this new LJ comment thing.
My OTP is not (in fact, most of my OTPs aren't) very popular, so I have a hard time even finding requests for them. The weird thing is, I have one pairing that is absolutely my favourite (Netherlands/Canada) but when I find a request for them, I'm hesitant to fill it. Another rare pairing that I love is France/Prussia, but for them, I will fill (almost) any request I find. But there are like three, so yeah...

Even weirder is that I am actually a Spain/Romano/Belgium shipper, and most the fills I have bookmarked are Prussia/Romano. I looked at my bookmarks and I was like WTFFFFFFFF how did this happen?!

On requests - I haven't once requested a NedCan. Strange. Must do that sometime soon.

I have several OTPs, all of which are fairly common. I am currently attempting to write something that goes directly against my OTP, which is difficult but not impossible. I usually write fics that aren't focused so much on romance, but any romance that I *do* write is almost exclusively for my OTPs. I guess I've always been pretty confident in my writing, except for porn. I've attempted to write porn maybe once or twice, and there are a few porn prompts I'd like to fill, but I just cannot do it and I'm insecure about that. I don't know why.
I generally read inside my OTPs, but if a story has a plot that sounds really intriguing, I'll ignore pairings I don't particularly enjoy for the sake of the story.
I prompt mostly gen stuff. Some of it is romantic, but mostly as sidelines.
